Xbalanque is a mentioned character in Genshin Impact. He was the first Pyro Archon of Natlan.[2]

Profile[]

Like all of the Pyro Archons that came after, Xbalanque was originally a mortal man with no special power. At some point, he showed compassion to Och-Kan when the latter was imprisoned by the dragons.[3] Along with Och-Kan, he took on the quest of overthrowing the Pyro Sovereign, Xiuhcoatl. Their party would grow to include other historical figures, such as Yupanqui, Lianca, and the twins Ahpub and Ixquieh.

After defeating Xiuhcoatl, Xbalanque was "revived from the flames."[4][5] He had slashed the great dragon's eyes in the battle, which created two Golden Entreaties. He and Waxaklahun Ubah Kan each took one, swearing an oath to maintain peace between humans and dragons thereafter.

After becoming Pyro Archon, Xbalanque bargained with Ronova, the Ruler of Death, to borrow her power in order to establish the rules that would aid Natlan's fight against the Abyss—the Ode of Resurrection and the Pilgrimage of the Return of the Sacred Flame. [6] He also set up the systems and rules that would allow future mortals to ascend to Pyro Archonhood.[7]

Xbalanque is quoted in Neuvillette's official introduction, saying, "Someday, when they return, their true ordeal shall begin."[8]

The Eternal Empire of Ochkanatlan was founded by Xbalanque's followers. After Xbalanque "arose from the throne to enter the Sacred Flame,"[9] Och-Kan took over as its king. However, he would go on to betray the commandments that Xbalanque had left him. Ochkanatlan would be abandoned after the Scarlet-Eyed Hero and his party overthrew Och-Kan, with the Hero becoming the second Pyro Archon in the process and destroying the city with his new-found power.[10]
