Waskar was a historical character from the Natlan tribe of the fertile lands, the Collective of Plenty, and one of the heroes who fought against the insane king. He was the younger twin hero between himself and Atawallpa.
Profile[]
Atawallpa and Waskar were the second to join the Scarlet-Eyed Youth's cause, after Sakkuk and before Yupanqui and the Masterful Craftsman. Waskar was subjected to cruelty in his past, described as having "bore the brunt of the tyrant's lash."[1] He and Atawallpa were close and enjoyed joking around.[2] When Waskar was slain at their adversary's hands, Atawallpa was so overcome with grief that his throat grew hoarse from his screams.[3]
Trivia[]
- Hero twins are a prominent motif in Native American cultures.
Etymology[]
- Atawallpa and Waskar's names are derived from the Quechua names of Atahualpa and Waskar Inka, half-brothers who each laid claim to the throne of the Inca Empire after their father's death. The ensuing succession crisis led to the Inca Civil War.
