Enter the underground ruins
Investigate the underground ruins
Continue exploring
Defeat the Abyss Mages at the three locations (0/3)
- The first location consist of:
  - Cryo Abyss Mage x1
  - Pyro Abyss Mage x1
- The second location consist of:
  - Electro Abyss Mage x1
  - Hydro Abyss Mage x1
- The final location consist of:
  - Cryo Abyss Mage x1
  - Electro Abyss Mage x1
Head to the core to shut it down
Defeat the Abyss Lector: Violet Lightning
- The Blazing Thunder of the Dark Depths - The Thing From Below
Shut down the extraction device
Leave the underground ruins
Talk to Ararycan

Gameplay Notes[]

Progressing through this quest unlocks an unmarked Teleport Waypoint.
Completing this quest grants the Wonders of the World Achievement ...Let Me Fade With Memory.

Dialogue[]

Quest Description

Somehow, you managed to open the entrance to the underground ruins. Once you find the core in the Dev's Cavern, the truth about the forest's "disease" will be unveiled...

(Approach the marked area): Paimon: Hey, Ararycan, what are you doing here?; Ararycan: Ararycan has been waiting for you here since Ararycan finished sowing the flowers.; Ararycan: But then, something just fell off the Great Iron Mountain. It almost hit Ararycan!; Paimon: Oh no! We're sorry, Ararycan!; Ararycan: Paimon doesn't have to say sorry. Ararycan is fine. Ararycan is a fast runner, so Ararycan didn't get hit.; Just glad it didn't hurt you.; Paimon: The robot's severed arm must have broken the entrance to the underground ruins open. Well, at least it wasn't completely useless.; Paimon: Then let's go down and have a look. Who knows what nasty things wait for us down there!; Ararycan: Ararycan is going with you!

(Approach the abyss mages): Paimon: It's Abyss Mages. I knew the Abyss Order had a hand in it!

(Approach the cave entrance): Paimon: The glowing thing in there must be the Ruin Golem's Chaos Core. Y'know, the one Jazari talked about.; Paimon: It's sealed by branches and vines, but something seems to be flowing out of it.; Ararycan: Ohh, it's the filthy stuff. Ararycan can feel it. This is what made the forest sick.; Paimon: Ah, some Abyss Mages seem to be up to something around those big branches. This can't be good...; Paimon: Paimon remembers Jazari said that the core's seal had been damaged. Maybe these Abyss Mages had something to do with it...; Paimon: Anyway, you should go and find a place to hide, Ararycan. Let's stop them!

Step Description

Sure enough, the forest's illness is the Abyss Order's doing. Find a way to drive them away and protect the core's seal from further damage...

(Defeating the first group of abyss mages): Paimon: Looks like the power of the branches is restoring. So Abyss Mages did have something to do with it.; Paimon: Let's get rid of the rest of the Abyss Mages!

(Defeating the last group of abyss mages): Paimon: Now, the Abyss Order won't be able to destroy the seal on the core.; Paimon: But the filthy things are still coming out of it. Let's take a closer look.

(Approach the device): Paimon: This device is constantly extracting all that energy from within...; Paimon: This is kinda creepy...

(During the fight with the Abyss Lector): The Thing From Below: Ignorant ones, we seek not to claim that which is of this earth, but that which is ours.; The Thing From Below: At any rate, why would you reject such a blessing?; The Thing From Below: Clinging to what you see will only turn you blind...; Paimon: Stop making excuses for destroying the forest!

(After defeating the Abyss Lector): Paimon: Well, so we got rid of that weird bad guy.; Paimon: Quick, we should find a way to get back up there and shut that strange device off.

(After turning off the device): Paimon: We've finally turned that device off. The forest is finally free of further harm.; Paimon: The forest's illness will slowly take a turn for the better, right?

Step Description

The strange device beneath the core has been turned off. While no progress on Marana's Avatar has been made, you've helped Ararycan resolve the forest's illness, and that issue has finally come to an end...

(While leaving the ruins): Paimon: It's been so long since Paimon took in some fresh and clean air...; Paimon: Let's go tell Ararycan the good news!

(Talk to Ararycan)

Paimon: Phew, it's finally over!

Paimon: Well, it was a long journey, wasn't it?

Let's tell this story to Jazari...

Paimon: Oh right, if he knows about the core, he can help us apply for some funding and all that stuff.

Paimon: But Paimon's not gonna enroll in the Akademiya or anything. You aren't planning to either, right, (Traveler)?

Let's tell this story to grandpa Royinjan...

Paimon: Oh yeah, and grandpa Royinjan will say, "What an interesting story!"

Paimon: Who'd know that we actually saved the forest?

Paimon: Anyway, we don't know what Marana's Avatar has to do with the Abyss Order yet, but it's a good thing that we cured the forest's illness all the same.

Ararycan: *sob* Thank you for helping Ararycan.

You're welcome, Ararycan.

Paimon: So, what do you plan to do next, Ararycan?

Ararycan: Ararycan will celebrate Festival Utsava. But Ararycan worries about the forest's illness.

Ararycan: There's a chance that the bad things that made the forest sick will come back. Ararycan needs to guard the forest.

Ararycan: So Ararycan will come back here after Festival Utsava.

Wow, Aranara really do have tough jobs.

Paimon: If you ever need any help, Ararycan, be sure to come to us!

Ararycan: Okay, Ararycan will.

Paimon: Hehe! Take care of yourself. We'll see each other soon!
