Towers of Betrayal is a point of interest located in Great Red Sand, Sumeru.

A series of huge obelisks found throughout Sumeru's Great Red Sand.

The ones in Hypostyle Desert, Land of Lower Setekh and Land of Upper Setekh are on the surface, but must be unlocked from within by accessing them through the desert's cave network. The ones in the Desert of Hadramaveth are partially or completely buried underground, and are entered through their main entrance.

They all feature a ground level room with a blue crystal, and some feature a basement arena accessed using an elevator.

Descriptions[]

These huge obelisks have been standing here since the death of King Deshret. The desert dwellers call them the "Towers of Betrayal" and regard them as symbols of shame that serve as constant reminders of the fact that the desert kings had broken their oath with King Deshret...
The obelisks' true history could date back to a period preceding that of those short-lived desert kingdoms, but it has unfortunately long been forgotten.

Lore[]

Multiple Towers of Betrayal are seen in the Lost Legacies in the Sand cutscene narrated by the priest Kasala in the Archon Quest Secret of the Scorching Desert in Chapter III: Act IV - King Deshret and the Three Magi. He refers to the Towers as temples that where built by King Deshret's priests and infused by Greater Lord Rukkhadevata's power of life in order to tamper the disasters brought by King Deshret's Forbidden Knowledge. Kasala used to guard one such temple.
