- The name of the constellation (Japanese: 月舟霧渚 Gesshuu Musho[!][!], "Moon Ship, Misty Beach"; Chinese: 海渚月舟 Hǎi Zhǔ Yuè Zhōu, "Sea Islet, Moon Ship") is a reference to the phrase "the moon ship passes over a misty beach" (月舟移霧渚), the first line of a Japanese poem of kanshi (poetry written in Chinese) composed by Emperor Monmu of Japan (683–707), from Kaifuusou (751).[1]
- This reference may reflect Kokomi's expertise in law and diplomacy, as the emperor is known as the ruler who issued the Taihou Code (701), the first Japanese legal system which is equipped with both a criminal code and an administrative code, and got the empress regnant Wu Zetian of China to recognize the nation's new name 日本 "Sun-Origin" in 702, the etymological root of "Japan."
