I - The Golden Apple Vacation Returns![]

After returning to Mondstadt, the Traveler and Paimon learn from Katheryne that Fischl had been looking for them, and had directed them to meet her at the statue outside the Favonius Cathedral. They head to the statue where they find Fischl, Oz and Mona. Fischl reveals that after bumping into Klee, she received an anonymous letter offering up a masterless land in which she could restore her fallen kingdom. While Fischl is excited to head to the island, Mona suspects that Alice and her master must be behind the letter due to Klee's involvement. The Traveler and Paimon immediately recognize the location as the Golden Apple Archipelago and the author of the letter as Alice.

Recalling that Venti had taken them there before, the Traveler and Paimon head to Angel's Share and find him at a table Xinyan and Kazuha, who had both come from Liyue and ended up at Mondstadt. Venti shares a tale about their last visit to the island before offering drinks to Xinyan and Kazuha. The Traveler and Venti then leave to speak in private, where the latter reveals that he had been in on Alice's plan all along. He gives the Traveler the Dodocommunication Device, a prototype communicator that Alice had given him when she and Klee passed by Mondstadt a few days ago.

When they head downstairs, they find Kazuha drunk, and Venti realizes that he had mixed up the juice with cocktails, much to Paimon's annoyance. Nonetheless, both Xinyan and Kazuha are eager for a new adventure, so the Traveler invites them along. The next day, the group reconvenes at the front gate of the city; there, they meet Fischl and Mona, who take a liking to the two newcomers. They then head outside the city boundaries and find a Dodoco-themed device outside, which takes them to the Archipelago.

As soon as they land, Fischl and Mona get into an argument over who can swim better and begin racing each other. Meanwhile, Xinyan goes to prepare the camp, while Kazuha decides to scout the islands and asks the Traveler to come along. During their investigation, the Traveler and Kazuha find a strange device and the presence of Fatui on the island; after running into a Legionnaire behaving oddly and defeating him, a Fatuus named Persikov arrives. Persikov explains that the Fatui came to the island to test a new kind of energy generator he had created. However, the machine had broken, so they were just about to leave. Persikov is surprised to learn that the islands belong to someone, but agrees to stay within the area of the device. Kazuha asks the Traveler to keep their knowledge of the Fatui's presence from the others so that they can enjoy their vacation.

After returning to the camp, they find the other three more relaxed than before. The Traveler and Paimon call Venti using the Dodocommunication Device and inform him of the Fatui presence on the Archipelago. Venti reassures the pair that the Fatui won't impede their vacation.

II - As the Courtyard in Spring Once Appeared[]

The next day, the Traveler is shaken awake by a panicked Paimon, who tells them that certain strange things have begun happening on the island. First, the two find that their boat has somehow attained sentience and begun speaking with a squirrel. The rest of the group also recounts some of the strange phenomena they have seen around the island. When Mona performed a divination to try to find answers, her scryglass showed only a chaotic mess that was impossible to decipher. Suddenly, the group sees a thunderstorm descending on the Archipelago; for a few moments they see a gigantic castle on top of a faraway isle, before the mirage completely disappears. Mona states that the mirage flickering in and out matches what had seen earlier that morning, while Kazuha says that they seem too real to just be illusions. After some discussion, Paimon names their talking boat Miitoboru, and the group boards it to investigate an island near Pudding Isle.

Once they reach their destination, Kazuha immediately spots something unusual: a bonsai pot that had been in his family's possession for many generations sitting atop a rock, with nothing planted in its soil. Upon touching it, everyone is suddenly transported into an Inazuman-style domain, with Kazuha himself nowhere to be found. After making their way through the maze, the rest of the group find Kazuha at the end of it, who reveals that the domain had recreated his childhood home from his memories. It had also prevented him from exploring the place unlike his companions, trapping him in a replication of his childhood bedroom until he was found by the others. Kazuha explains that this may be because of his own philosophy about this past: something that is already gone, and which he cannot relive.

After touching the bonsai again, the group is transported back to the Archipelago, where they see that a completely new set of islands have appeared. Kazuha realizes that the changes in the mirage are related to the bonsai, and that the mirage must be giving him an opportunity to make up for past regrets – namely, the downfall of the Kaedehara Clan after the Raiden Gokaden incident. He decides to try his hand at decorating the bonsai pot with everyone's help. Each change to the bonsai transports to the group (sans Kazuha) to another domain made from Kazuha's memories, showing moments from his life: Kazuha's father, Kaedehara Kageharu, told his son that he had failed in his duties to revitalize the clan, advising him to abandon the family craft and live out his own life without burdens. Kazuha initially refused to listen; after Kagehara's death, however, he dismissed the last of the family's servants and dissolved the clan, heeding his father's words and becoming a wanderer. He traveled throughout Inazuma, befriended a fellow wanderer, and, at some point, received a Vision. Kazuha would later become a fugitive under the Vision Hunt Decree, and was forced to flee Inazuma aboard the Alcor.

After entering the domain many times, Kazuha realizes that despite his own views on the past, deep down he wishes to cultivate a bonsai like his ancestors before him and keep the traditions of the Kaedehara Clan alive. Since the mirage was able to unearth a part of himself that he had not been aware of, Kazuha theorizes that it may later reveal something related to either Xinyan, Fischl, or Mona. The group then returns to the Archipelago and calls it a day. Xinyan and Kazuha prepare dinner, while Mona checks up on Fischl, who appears gloomier than usual. The Traveler attempts to call Venti again, but they fail to reach him and decide to contact him the next day. Later, Mona finds the Traveler and informs them that since witnessing the events in Kazuha's mirage, Fischl has been worried about what her own mirage might reveal.

III - Blazin' Trails[]

The following day, Xinyan and the others decide to head to the Broken Isle; however, Fischl has made up an excuse not to join them. When they get there, Xinyan spots a drum-like instrument covered in vines and touches it, which transports everyone to an underground domain. They eventually meet a massive flower known as Blazing Heart, who tells the group that they will need to bring it Glacial Spring Water to open the path before they can proceed any further. While following a water vein, the group finds a note left by Albedo, which claims that the island is actually a giant musical instrument. The group draws water from the spring and sprinkles it on Blazing Heart, which revitalizes it and opens the path to the hall of music.

Much like in Kazuha's mirage, the mirage in the hall of music touches on many parts of Xinyan's past: Xinyan's own mother had not supported her dreams of becoming a singer, telling her that birds were only capable of singing because they drank spring water from the mountains. As Xinyan grew older, she faced more pushback from her family and other Liyue residents, who disapproved of her music. Mona, Kazuha, and Paimon are angered on Xinyan's behalf; however, she tells them that she has grown a thick skin from all the criticism, learning how to solve her problems without anger or conflict. After going through some memories, the group stop for lunch by Xinyan's house, which is also located in the mirage. Inside, Xinyan finds that the mirage had conjured Xiangling and Yun Jin from her memories, who had come to throw her a surprise birthday party. Xinyan makes a birthday wish — "to perform with someone completely unexpected" – which transports everyone out of the mirage.

The group decides to clear the blockages in the water veins to connect the islands and reform the giant instrument described in Albedo's notes. The group speaks to another flower, Frozen Soul. who allows them to use its power to dredge the mountains on the island. With this, they restore the water levels on the island, bringing music back to the isle and allowing Xinyan to fulfill her wish. She performs a special song, paying respect to the musician who transformed the island into an instrument in the past. Soon after, Mona reveals that, like Kazuha and the Traveler, she was aware of the Fatui presence on the Archipelago and had also already warned Fischl. The group heads to the island to the north, but finds the Fatui camp completely empty and the strange machine abandoned. Mona performs a divination and finds an energy flow leading to Twinning Isle.

There, they run into Fischl, whose odd behavior causes everyone to be concerned for her. Nonetheless, Mona insists on waiting for Fischl's mirage to appear so they can get to the bottom of the matter.

IV - Immernachtreich Apokalypse[]

The next morning, the group discovers a raven statue resembling Oz and a book ("Hymn of the Holy Land") lying abandoned on the beach, although Fischl and Oz are nowhere to be found. They decide to enter the mirage, believing that Fischl would catch up to them sooner or later. Within the mirage, they find the Immernachtreich of Fischl's imagination: a strange domain where the events of the Prinzessin's life is recounted by a narrator and talking raven statues represent the citizens of the kingdom. The group makes their way through the domain and find the book on its last page. Upon closing it, they are transported to another domain, this time mimicking Fischl's home. The group witnesses scenes from Fischl's past — namely, memories of Fischl's parents playing along with her fantasy when she was a child and calling her by her real name, Amy. However, they are abruptly forced out of the mirage and back to the archipelago before they can finish the story. The book and statue they had previously used to enter the mirage also stop working. Arnold, another raven statue, overhears their plight and directs them to the other two volumes (domains) of "Hymn of the Holy Land."

On the way to the second volume, the group is met by two raven statue guards, but are let go after they prove themselves to be Fischl's retainers. The narrator recounts the story of a battle between the Prinzessin and a terrible dragon, which Mona surmises is the representation of the reality that Fischl refuses to face. Once they clear the domain and close the second volume, they witness another one of Fischl's memories—one in which Fischl's parents told her to give up on believing in fairy tales, and dedicate her time to something more meaningful. They are once again transported outside the mirage, and Arnold then tells them how to reach the third and last volume.

On their way to the third volume, the group runs into the same guards from before. This time, the guards refuse to let them through until Fischl arrives and dismisses them for disparaging her friends. Now with Fischl in tow, they open the book and re-enter the mirage. The domain is now a castle with missing pieces, which Oz claims is the same toy castle Fischl had once destroyed during a tantrum. The group repairs the bridge and enters the castle; however, when they close the final volume, they are instead transported to a large library. There, they discover another Fischl, who convinces Oz to recognize her as his true master. Immernacht Fischl claims that the Immernachtreich is a tomb for those who cannot face reality, and that she will trap the entire group in her domain for eternity. The real Fischl is devastated by Oz's betrayal and her other self's words, but Xinyan, Kazuha, and Mona are able to restore her resolve. The group fight their way through the library and Fischl confronts her doppelganger; she admits to her insecurities and faults, but also takes pride in the power of her imagination, reclaiming the Immernachtreich for herself. Oz then says that Immernacht Fischl and Amy are one and the same — they represent two sides of the same person, Fischl. Upon hearing this, Fischl embraces the darkness within herself represented by the doppelganger and regains her confidence, formally welcoming everyone to the Immernachtreich.

The group then returns to the isle. Fischl is glad to have confronted her insecurities, now knowing that her imagination is unique and wonderful. The Traveler and Paimon climb to the top of the castle and try to contact with Venti, but the connection is hijacked by an unknown entity. The voice states that they'll be meeting soon and that the mirages represent the "deep dream" of humans, telling them to witness everything the Archipelago has to offer before they speak again.

V - The Ancient Azure Stars[]

The next day, Mona tells everyone to gather and reveals that her own mirage has formed. They head to Minacious Isle, where they discover a pool that leads to the mirage. They begin to explore the domain and find a chest containing a star. While following the star, the group hears a monologue from Mona conjured by the mirage. The voice recounts Mona's misery when she first began practicing divination; she performed divination for many people, but faced harsh disappointment from those who could not handle the truth of what she found. The rest of the group try to comfort Mona, but she ensures them that such feelings are all in the past. The group leaves through a door, but they are not sent back to where they started. Xinyan discovers another pool but they can't enter it. Paimon notices that there is an image of a location in the pool. When they head to the location, they find a shard and use it to access the pool.

The group returns to the mirage and finds another chest with a star inside. As before, they follow the star and hear another monologue from Mona, this time detailing a divination she had performed for an adventurer three years ago. To her shock, Mona divined that the adventurer would meet his end within the next two years unless he gave up adventuring. However, the adventurer, despite accepting the results, refused to give up his profession. After leaving the domain, Mona professes that she has never forgotten that incident; since three years have passed, she is confident that the adventurer is no longer alive. She laments that astrology is a disdained profession precisely because it reveals the truth, which many people are unable to accept. Xinyan, Fischl, and Kazuha reassure Mona that they are glad to be her friends. The group then leave to find another shard.

They return to the mirage, once again finding a chest with a star in it. They follow the star to a door and arrive in Mona's house back in Mondstadt; there, everyone finds all of the expensive things in Mona's home, and realize that despite never having money, she actually just spends all of her income on astrology equipment. They find a strange ornament and touch it, which returns them to Mona's mirage, now in the form of in a beautiful, starry sky. Mona realizes that she does not need to force fate to change, for fate cannot be altered or reversed. Instead, she decides that instead of dwelling on her helplessness, she will seize her own destiny, and continue to guide people towards their futures. She then finally catches the star she has been following.

The group leave the mirage, returning to the Archipelago. Kazuha reveals to everyone that he and the Traveler had found a strange machine in a Fatui camp on their first day on the islands. He surmises that the machine affects people in different ways depending on their willpower; the Fatui, who lacked willpower, began hallucinating and fell into madness. However, Kazuha, Xinyan, Fischl, and Mona were able to construct stable mirages out of their hallucinations. They decide to check out the Fatui camp and investigate the machine.

VI - Like Rhyme and Song, the Summer Reverie[]

The group arrives at the Fatui camp, and discover a drunk Persikov. They pour water over him to sober him up, causing him to begin crying and ranting about the Fatui's mocking of his invention. Kazuha deduces that the effects of the strange machine are getting worse, and that Persikov has gone insane; he lifts Persikov and slams him into the ground, which brings the man back to his senses. Mona finds Persikov's manuscripts, which reveal that the machine, named "Cognitive Mimicry," is modeled after the power of a god and capable of altering the state of people's brains. The Fatui had not supported Persikov's research, but allowed him to continue his experiments on the deserted island and recruit junior Fatui soldiers as his research subjects. However, the machine broke down after only a couple days; the Fatui tried to fix it, but lost the machine's crystalline cores. Persikov then went to look for the cores himself and left his subordinates in a cave for their safety. He eventually found the location of the cores, but succumbed to the device's influence himself. The group finds the cores in Persikov's stead and inserts them into the machine, finally fixing it. Later, two Fatui arrive at the camp and are seemingly no longer influenced by the machine.

The group then returns to Klee's Camp. Mona comes to tell them that even though the machine is now turned off, the mirages are still there and it might take some time for them to disappear. She feels that there is some kind of unknown power surrounding them, but believes that the power doesn't have any ill intent. They decide to enjoy the rest of their vacation.

The Traveler and Paimon call Venti and tell him about the events of the last few days. Venti tells them that as long they had an unforgettable experience, the journey served its purpose. The Traveler and Paimon head back to the camp and the mysterious entity speaks to the Traveler again. The voice says that she meant no harm; she was merely curious after sensing a power that was related to her on the Archipelago. She was also impressed with the group's willpower, and claims she helped "them" design the experience to everyone's liking. The entity tells the Traveler that they might meet one day in another place, and believes that the Traveler will recognize her. As the voice disappears, a Dendro symbol appears. The Traveler wonders about the meaning behind the entity's words.

Trivia[]

  • During Immernachtreich Apokalypse (Part 3) and Like Rhyme and Song, the Summer Reverie, the unknown entity that the Traveler speaks to through the Dodocommunication Device and telepathically is strongly implied to be the Dendro Archon Lesser Lord Kusanali:
    • The entity hints that the player will meet them at some point in the near future.
    • After the entity finishes speaking to the Traveler for the last time, a Dendro elemental symbol briefly appears in front of the Traveler.
    • The entity seems to have the same voice as the one teased at the end of the Version 2.8 Special Program during the new region preview. (This is true across Chinese, English, and Korean, the only voiced languages with a Special Program.) This voice also sounds the same as the voice of Nahida (Lesser Lord Kusanali).
    • Sumeru, the nation of Dendro, was the next playable region after this event's story.
    • Despite the fact that the Dodocommunication Device was made by Alice and was only meant to allow communication between the Traveler and Venti, this entity somehow not only cuts off that link but also commandeers it.
    • Persikov's Manuscript revealed that the Fatui machine, which caused the mirages and hallucinations experienced by the party and the Fatui, was modeled after the power of a God (Archon).
    • The entity admits they helped "design a little something" for the Traveler and friends, referencing the machine and/or the mirages.
    • Additional connections that aren't as direct:
      • A "mirage" of knowledge is mentioned in Teyvat Chapter Storyline Preview: Travail for Sumeru. However, the original Chinese text uses a word for "bait" instead of "mirage."
      • The Version 2.8 Special Program showed a Statue of The Seven that appears to depict a child. While it is unknown whether Statues of The Seven depict current or previous Archons, the entity that speaks to the Traveler on the Golden Apple Archipelago sounds young. (This is true across all four voiced languages.)
