Osial is an ancient god and a sea monster that was defeated by Rex Lapis during the Archon War two thousand years ago. It was defeated at Guyun Stone Forest, where Rex Lapis pinned Osial to the ocean floor using his stone spears.[1]
Zhongli refers to their conflict as an "ancient grudge,"[2] suggesting he and Osial had a long-standing enmity for reasons yet unknown. However, tales of Rex Lapis' victory over the sea monsters have become a much-beloved tale among the people of Liyue.[3]
During "Heart of Glaze," Childe uses the Fatui-manufactured Sigils of Permission to unleash Osial, hoping to lure out the Geo Archon in order to steal his Gnosis. Despite being imprisoned for two thousand years, Osial's strength had not diminished, and it easily shattered the Guizhong Ballistas when the adepti tried to use them. However, the ancient god was defeated and resealed once more after Ningguang dropped the Jade Chamber on it.
During "A Herald Without Adherents," it is revealed by Dainsleif that the Osial boss fight had actually stopped the Abyss Order from creating a "mechanized god," which they intended to use to "topple the divine thrones of Celestia."
Gameplay
While Osial itself is not directly fought as a boss during Turning Point, it can still directly attack the player character with its Hydro attacks. During the fight, the player's whole objective is to defend the Guizhong Ballistas manned by the Adepti against Osial and the Fatui being summoned by Childe.
If any of the Ballistas are destroyed, the Challenge will fail. The Challenge will complete itself if the timer runs out.
Osial will perform the following attacks:
- At some time, Osial will channel its divine power, hurling a powerful Hydro energy in the whole area which deals massive AoE DMG.
- Osial can rain down Hydro energy. Circular indicators will appear on the ground as a warning to get out of its reach.
At some time during the fight, the Adepti will bless the party members with their adeptal energies, aiding them with buffs:
- Madame Ping: Attacks dealt will release powerful intermittent shockwaves, dealing AoE DMG.
- Ganyu: Survivability increased, HP replenishes per second.
- Xiao: Movement SPD is greatly increased.
- Afterwards, all adeptal energies will be combined at once.
Trivia
- Following the theme of gods in Genshin Impact being named after demons in the Ars Goetia, Osial could be the combination of Ose, the 57th demon, and Belial, the 68th demon.
- People who sleep at Guyun Stone Forest have reported reliving Osial's memories of its defeat at Rex Lapis' hands.[1] It is unclear whether this phenomenon stems from Osial's powers, or if they stem from something else.
- Osial's original Chinese title uses zh_tn: Demon God; 魔神, a term for gods preceding the rise of The Seven. The English localization typically translates this term as "God," but it was translated as "Overlord" for Osial instead.
