Summary[]
The Traveler meets a man named Kaji in Fort Fujitou, who is investigating the source of the island's endless rain and constant lightning. Kaji hypothesizes that the abnormal weather is caused by the destruction of a series of ancient wards, related to the remains of the serpent god Orobashi. The guardian deity of Watatsumi Island, who sacrificed itself after learning a forbidden truth about the world that Celestia wanted hidden, Orobashi led an invasion of Yashiori Island and was ultimately slain by the Raiden Shogun, Ei, in a battle that created the Musoujin Gorge and left the god's remains scattered across the land. The lingering power of the god's remains is what causes the Tatarigami phenomenon.
The Traveler completes a series of tasks, broken down into five parts:
- Parts I, II, and III
The Traveler goes to three separate locations on Yashiori Island (Musoujin Gorge, Serpent's Head, and Jakotsu Mine) to find missing "Rock Pillar Warding Stones" and "Rock Pillar Pearls" and return them to the broken wards by solving intricate Sacred Stone Puzzles.
- Parts IV and V
After fixing the first three wards, Fort Mumei rises from the sea near Watatsumi Island. The Traveler and Kaji investigate, finding one final, larger ward protected by a Maguu Kenki. The Traveler defeats it and solves the final puzzle to repair the last ward, upon which the constant rain and perpetual storm on Yashiori Island cease. Kaji thanks the Traveler and moves on to the Kujou Encampment to continue his work.
