Follow the silver thread spun by the new moon, traverse biting gales and desolate tundras as the snow-kissed lakes, fractured like mirrors, reflect their ageless, glacial radiance. The days are bitterly short, and the night stretches on like a dark, yawning maw. But even then, the light and song of the Welkin Moon will dance gently across the faces of visiting travelers. Up at ye towers, and let your lanterns blaze into the darkness! Until the day comes... when true moonlight bathes this land once more.
Nod-Krai, also known as the borderlands, is an autonomous region located on the edge of Teyvat in the southernmost part of Snezhnaya,[2] and one of the major regions in Genshin Impact. People from all over Teyvat congregate in Nod-Krai,[3] leading to the region gaining the reputation of being an "Elysium."[4][5] Nod-Krai has a deep connection to the Three Moons that once existed above Teyvat, and the Frostmoon Scions, the indigenous people of Nod-Krai, worship the Moon Goddess Kuutar, also known as the former Fatui Harbinger Columbina.
The Archon Quest Song of the Welkin Moon takes place in this region.
Description[]
Nod-Krai is the remnant of a fourth moon that failed to materialize.[6] It is especially hostile due to the harsh environment and lack of protective and regulative forces aside from the Voynich Guild, and Liben warns the Traveler to be wary if they go there. Those that are suspected to hold a large amount of Mora are also painted as a target by others.[3]
Nod-Krai includes locations such as Nasha Town where the "Speranza" restaurant operates, the Clink-Clank Krumkake Craftshop that produces many different inventions, as well as Hiisi Island that is home to the Frostmoon Scions. According to Helka, the Frostmoon Scions are a strange group that lives in the wilds and forests surrounding Nod-Krai, and people do not generally look into and approach them.[7] They also made several Statues of the New Moon dedicated to Columbina and spread them all across Nod-Krai.[8]
Some of the people of Nod-Krai are able to use kuuvahki, a special power that originates from the Three Moons and predates the seven elements of Teyvat. A Fatui stronghold operates in Nod-Krai, led by Il Dottore.[9] Before, the area was considered "dangerous yet lively," but in recent times, it has been more dangerous than usual. At some point, large-scale development was planned for the area, but no traces of it exist to the current day, unless one counts the many scraps lying around. There is also a type of crab species residing in the area far different from those found in Fontaine. At some point after Helka left to explore monsters from the other nations, the Fatui had returned and moved plenty of construction supplies in as part of their "Palestar Edict," with rumors swirling that one or several Fatui Harbingers were present too. There were also "bad" situations to the north regarding Abyss influence.[7]
Following the cataclysm, Nod-Krai was one of the first locations to be attacked by the Abyss. These Abyssal entities are generally known as The Wild Hunt, and its members are notably stronger compared to other Abyss creatures. They appear to be searching for something of extreme significance in the area.[2] The Lightkeepers are still fighting the abyssal beings, but have become severely weakened due to previous battles.
After learning new information during their expedition, the Knights of Favonius headed to Nod-Krai with Varka.[10] There, Varka noticed that the situation in Nod-Krai was incredibly tense, warning the Traveler through a letter that they had best be prepared before arriving.

Notable Features[]
Nod-Krai features many unique mechanics and environmental hazards:
Kuuvahki[]
Kuuvahki is an energy similar to Natlan's Phlogiston and Fontaine's Arkhe, and is used in a wide variety of mechanics in Nod-Krai. This energy is polarized, shown as blue or red. Certain "unipolar" objects are infused with one polarity of kuuvahki or the other, which are attracted to other unipolar objects of the opposite polarity, and repel objects of the same polarity. In certain situations, the player can enter an empowered state that infuses them with one polarity or the other, enabling them to remotely push or pull kuuvahki infused objects of the appropriate polarity. Some "bipolar" objects can be manipulated by either polarity of kuuvahki. Kuuvahki energy can be used in the following ways:
- Harvest Mora Chests, Portable Bearings, Rainbowdrop Crystals, and kuuvahki-infused Icy Pebbles
- Remotely manipulate and carry ID cards (to deactivate Barrier Generators), Kuuvahki Dewdrops, kuuvahki-infused rocks, and Kuuvahki Relay Mechanisms (though carrying these can attract lightning)
- Arrange Assembly Modules while controlling Bobik
- Destroy Unipolar Crystonite, Recon Bots, and kuuvahki-infused debris
- Disarm the Fatui Oprichniki of their weaponry (or, in the case of higher-ranked Oprichniki officers, stagger them)
- Temporarily disable Landcruisers (Cutting Edge Fire Support Ground Effect Landcruiser and Force Recon Ground Effect Landcruiser only, ground-based Landcruisers are simply staggered)
- Cause objects emitting Unipolar Fields to attract or repel one another, or leap very high when empowered and standing on a Unipolar Field of the same polarity (often used for solving Moon Mirror puzzles)
- Temporarily turn into a kuuhenki for about 8 seconds. During this time, the player is in an empowered state, and can float, traverse rapidly along the ground, enter Mysterious Mists, and leap high into the air (if near certain kuuvahki-infused plants)
Other[]
- Amazing 'Bots are small, cubical robots found in Nod-Krai, primarily on Lempo Isle. They can be found individually or joined together. They can help the player in a variety of ways, such as displaying hints to the player on their screen "faces," emitting kuuvahki energy to permit the player to enter an empowered state, emitting unipolar fields, or following the player to allow them to be gathered together to solve a puzzle.
- Cleaning Bots can be remotely controlled from certain panels on Paha Isle. They are typically used to access areas the player cannot normally enter, and are infused with kuuvahki energy, allowing manipulation of bipolar objects or empowering the player if they're next to it.
- Kuuhenki are similar in appearance to Seelie and are also involved in puzzles. Approaching a white kuuhenki will often cause it to lead you to treasure. Blue and red kuuhenki cause the player to enter an empowered state on approach and will follow the player within a particular area. Certain kuuvahki-infused plants allow the player to turn into a kuuhenki for about 8 seconds, allowing them to float, traverse rapidly along the ground, enter patches of mist, and sometimes leap high into the air.
- Lunoculi can be offered at Statue of the New Moon in Nod-Krai for rewards.
- Moonlanes are paths similar to the Spiritways of Natlan which allow you to quickly traverse terrain or go places that are otherwise difficult to reach in the form of red or blue kuuhenki. The player can also use kuuvahki in this state to manipulate obstacles in their path.
- Rippleweeds are flytrap-like plants that can be opened by throwing Kuuvahki Dewdrops at them, releasing whatever is inside. The ones around Blue Amber Lake contain Stellafruit, which are used in World Quest The Tale-Telling Heart in Series East of the Moon, West of the Sun.
- Sniffer Moles can help the player find Unipolar Fields that may not be visible in exchange for Kuuvahki Relay Mechanisms.
- The Wasteland Wild Hunt is an Enemy Family in Nod-Krai that are members of The Wild Hunt faction. Completely draining a Wild Hunt enemy's HP or using skills enhanced by Moonsign: Ascendant Gleam causes them to enter a "Grief-Stricken state" for a brief time. In this state, the enemy is immobilized and damage reduces their maximum HP. After about 10 seconds, their HP meter refills and they resume attacking. The enemy will only be defeated when their maximum HP is reduced to zero while in the Grief-Stricken state. Fighting them charges nearby Tideseal Stones, which can be activated when fully charged to damage Wild Hunt enemies.
