An autonomous humanoid swordsman. It is said that this machine was made using the culminative memory of the first-generation master of a certain sword technique known for its secret technique, the Tengu Sweeper. However, it malfunctioned, lost control, and was ultimately discarded. Some sing that this blade-ghost wanders about in a place where fate was severed.

Maguu Kenki (Japanese: 魔偶剣鬼 "Magic Puppet Sword Demon") is a Normal Boss in Genshin Impact.

Maguu Kenki is currently located in the Serpent's Head, Yashiori Island, Inazuma. During Version 1.6, it was located on the Twinning Isle in the Golden Apple Archipelago after the water level had been lowered.

When defeated, the player must consume 40 Original Resin to claim its drops, which consist of Artifacts and Character Ascension Material for various Characters. It takes 3 minutes for the Maguu Kenki to respawn.


An disciplined mechanical swordsman.
Doesn't seem to have the ability nor will to speak, but instead only seeks to communicate with crossed swords.
It is said that this machine was made using the memories of the first-generation master of a certain sword school. However, it malfunctioned, lost control, and was ultimately discarded.
Some sing that the machine's spirit still lingers in the place where its fate was ended. They also say that the vicious mask that serves as its guard was inspired by a famous oni from that era.

Who knows what waves brought this mechanical swordsman to the shores of the Golden Apple Archipelago. Though it has been damaged, it still possesses great combat prowess.

Abilities and Attacks


  • Oni Mask: Maguu Kenki uses several oni masks in battle.
    • Oushi no Omote (Protective Mask): Summons an oni mask to protect it from ranged attacks if it is not performing one of its other attacks.
    • Pushing Mask: Summons a large oni mask in front of it before pushing it forward to deal Anemo DMG.
    • Exploding Mask: Summons a large oni mask at the player's position that swirls uncontrollably before exploding, dealing Cryo DMG.
  • Dash: Performs up to 5 short dashes creating afterimage behind to approach the player.
  • Taunt: The Maguu Kenki will clench and raise its fist to taunt its opponent if they are far away from it after an attack. It is vulnerable to attacks while in this state.


Above 75% HP

  • Slashes: Slashes at the player three times, dealing Physical DMG.
  • Iai: Shadowrush: Enters Iai stance and rushes toward the player while drawing its sword, dealing Physical DMG.
  • Whirlwind Slash: Enters Iai stance and charges for a while before quickly slashing around itself once, dealing Physical DMG.


At 75% HP or Lower

  • Frost Dive: Summons an additional sword, charging up before slamming the ground for a wide AoE, dealing massive AoE Anemo DMG and Cryo DMG.
  • Flowing Water: Performs a slash, sending a wind blade towards the player's current location, dealing Anemo DMG. The single-slash version of this attack is only used to follow up Iai: Shadowrush or Phantom: Slashes when certain conditions are met.
  • Iai: Shadowrush (Enhanced): Enters Iai stance and rushes toward the player while drawing its sword, dealing Anemo DMG.
    • If the player is far after the initial attack, follows up with Flowing Water.
    • If the player is close after the initial attack, follows up with Phantom: Slashes.
  • Phantom: Slashes: Maguu Kenki and a phantom each performs up to 3 consecutive sword slashes at the player. The Maguu Kenki deals Anemo DMG while the phantom deals Anemo DMG or Cryo DMG.
    • The phantom's element is determined by the player's movement. If the player moves to the left of the first slash, the phantom will be Anemo. If the player moves to the right of the first slash, the phantom will be Cryo.
      • If the player stays close to the Maguu Kenki during the entire attack, performs 3 consecutive slashes.
      • If the player runs away from the Maguu Kenki, performs 2 consecutive slashes and a follow-up attack.
        • If the Phantom is Anemo, Maguu Kenki may follow up with Flowing Water.
        • If the phantom is Cryo, Maguu Kenki may follow up with Iai: Shadowrush.
        • If Phantom: Slashes is used as a follow up to Iai: Shadowrush, follows up with Pushing Mask regardless of the element of the phantom.
        • If the player moves in the opposite direction of their initial movement which determined the phantom's element, performs 2 consecutive slashes with no follow-ups.
  • Phantom: Whirlwind Slash:
    • Variant 1: Enters Iai stance and charges, dragging the player into its area of effect, before quickly slashing around itself, dealing Anemo DMG. The phantom appears close to the Maguu Kenki and slashes over a larger AoE, dealing Cryo DMG.
    • Variant 2: Teleports and leaves a Cryo phantom in its original location. Maguu Kenki and the phantom charge simultaneously before quickly slashing around themselves. Maguu Kenki deals Anemo DMG while the phantom deals Cryo DMG over a much larger AoE.
  • Phantom: Flowing Water: Teleports and leaves an Anemo phantom in its original location. The phantom performs a single Flowing Water slash before Maguu Kenki performs 3 or 4 Flowing Water slashes in quick succession at the player.



Maguu Kenki's attacks will initially deal Physical DMG. Similarly to Kairagi, it is not particularly dangerous until it imbues itself as it uses basic attacks. The boss cannot be damaged below 75% of its maximum health; when it reaches this threshold, it uses Frost Dive to imbue itself with Cryo and Anemo. The damage immunity lifts once this attack is finished. Upon reaching this threshold, the boss has a habit of frequently warping away from the player.

Maguu Kenki's mask parry is triggered by attack distance rather than attack type. Damage dealt when the player is in melee range will not trigger the parry, even if the damage comes from bow or catalyst characters, while damage dealt when the player is far away can trigger the parry, including damage dealt over time by stationary fields and creatures like Guoba. Since the mask parry will not be triggered in melee range, it is recommended to bring melee characters and stay close while attacking.

Maguu Kenki's Frost Dive, although covers a large AoE, can be countered by using a dash i-frame as soon as it enters downward motion.

How to Easily Beat Maguu Kenki


  • The Maguu Kenki in the Golden Apple Archipelago's title is Humanoid Automaton of Unknown Origin.
  • Maguu Kenki is the "General" mentioned in the Conch Retrospection series "My Hero", from the Echoing Tales event. During Dodo-King of the Sea: Lying in Wait, it is suggested that it may have defended the inhabitants of the islands from hilichurls.[1]
  • True to its name, Maguu Kenki appears to have puppet strings attached to various parts of its body.
  • According to an Echoing Conch, the Maguu Kenki was brought to the Golden Apple Archipelago by Inazuman immigrants to the island, after they stole it from their homeland.
  • Despite being released in Version 1.6, Maguu Kenki did not appear in the "Living Beings" section of the Archive until Version 2.0 when Inazuma was released. The boss could not be reviewed even if the player had defeated it before in the Golden Apple Archipelago, until the player found and defeated it in Inazuma.
  • The Maguu Kenki's sword arts, and model, are based off Iwakura Doukei's, which would essentially make them "practitioners" of the Iwakura Clan.

    Diluc: Hmm... There is a hilichurl presence here. Perhaps this machine's indiscriminate attack is actually supposed to be targeted at hilichurls... to protect the inhabitants.
