Local Legend

The Local Legends are special miniboss enemies first introduced with Fontaine, and are now present in both Liyue and Natlan.

Most of Local Legends are enhanced versions of normal or elite enemies with greatly increased stats, using improved or new attacks not found from their normal variant. There are a few exceptions though; Local Legends like Liam and The Peak are special enemies, while others like Cocijo and "Battlegoat" and "Ironclaw" are variants of non-hostile wildlife.

Some Local Legends require completion of a puzzle World Quest in order to access them. Defeating these enemies grants significant amounts of Mora, experience, and if applicable, Character and Weapon Enhancement Materials over their normal variants.

Underwater Local Legends have mechanics that cause them to lose percentage-based HP and/or interrupt their attacks when hit by specific Xenochromatic Creature attacks. Local Legends found on the surface have no such mechanics.

A variant of Local Legend, known in-game as Veteran, can be found in various game modes, such as the Spiral Abyss, Imaginarium Theater, and other special circumstances. Veterans share the same mechanics as Local Legends, but their stats are lower due to the the time-sensitive nature of the content they feature in.

Defeating each Local Legend for the first time grants an achievement. Within Natlan, these achievements are found under the Duelist: Series I, Duelist: Series II and Duelist: Series III categories; others are found under Wonders of the World. Natlanese Local Legends each have two more achievements for fulfilling certain additional requirements; these achievements have to be done successively with each new spawn — it is not possible to get two achievements in a single encounter.

Unlike most Local Legends, some of Natlan's Local Legends are instead accessed through Nightsoul Totems to take part in a challenge fight. These fights are called Night's Trials, and have special effects that provide bonus effects during the challenge. Upon teleporting to "Atlatl's Blessing", the player is forced to use their Traveler. Other Night's Trials retain the team the player was using.

Trivia[]

While most Local Legends become aggravated the same way most enemies do, there are a few that are initially passive until the player attacks them, or when nearby wildlife are attacked or caught with an Omni-Ubiquity Net: Battlegoat and Ironclaw, Rilai, and Sappho Amidst the Waves.
The Fairy Knight Twins and the Swords of the Gorge all have "Life Evolved by the Fontemer" as their subtitles, which will become visible if only one member of a pair is aggravated. This is possible if the other member has not yet loaded in.
The title "Giant Enemy Crab" is likely a reference to a line said at E3 2006, during the video game showcase of Genji: Days of the Blade, that was turned into a meme.
The Fatui Skirmishers' title "Polychrome Tri-Stars" is likely a reference to the Black Tri-Stars in the Mobile Suit Gundam series.
- Their codenames, Vasily, Nomokonov, and Sidorenko, reference various Soviet soldiers during World War II.
- Similarly to the Fairy Knight Twins and the Swords of the Gorge, their subtitles are only seen after one of the three are left remaining, though the name is randomized with each spawn.
The lutenist "Sappho Amidst the Waves" and the flautist "Rilai" are likely friends who meet up at Pilgrimages to play music and exchange songwriting tips.^[1]^[2] When you approach them, the normal background music is silenced, and you hear their playing instead.
