Liquid Phlogiston is an exploration mechanic in Natlan. While in contact, it applies Pyro to characters and enemies, and causes them to lose 5% of their Max HP every 0.25 seconds.
The following entities do not take damage from liquid Phlogiston:
- Koholasaurs, including ones indwelled by the player
- Mualani in her Nightsoul's Blessing state
- Tatankasaurs and Collective of Plenty characters during their special sprint
- Mavuika while riding her Flamestrider
Gameplay Notes[]
- Abilities that allow characters to walk on water, such as Furina's Elemental Skill, do not grant immunity to Liquid Phlogiston's HP loss effect. However, some abilities can raise the character high enough to prevent them from taking damage. Such examples include:
- Dying to Liquid Phlogiston will reward the Wonders of the World achievement "Hot! HOT!".

Phlogiston in a state resembling liquid.
It is still Phlogiston and thus contains high thermal energy, making it dangerous. To fall into it is to face swift death.
However, Koholasaurs and tribespeople with a firm grasp of phlogiston-manipulating techniques can traverse these "waters" for a short time.
