- The dish is likely inspired by the Chinese dish 冰糖雪梨 Bīngtáng Xuělí, "Rock Sugar Snow Pear". The dish, prepared by steaming rock sugar and an Asian pear together over a slow fire, is said to have cooling properties and is commonly taken as a cold antidote.
