Instances are points of interest that have an interior separate from the rest of the map, such as buildings. Instances typically require a loading screen to go through, and are often marked on the map. Unlike Domains, the player can take photos and switch their party members inside an instance.
Some Gadgets can be used inside instances, such as Kamera Gadgets, Music Gadgets, and the Windblume Festival Commemorative Balloon, but most gadgets cannot be used indoors. Gadgets that cannot be used include Treasure Compasses, the Serenitea Pot, the Portable Waypoint, and the Launch Tube.
