Profile[]

Hu Tao's father is considered to be one of the best spellcasters in the Hu Family for generations. Hu Tao remarks that despite mastering the Wangsheng arts at eight, her father was already hosting rituals and incinerating fetor by himself at that age. Ten years prior to the Traveler's arrival, he and his father went to Wuwang Hill to seal a large amount of fetor that had manifested there with the Art of Homa. However, due to his inability to let go and live without regrets, he made a fatal mistake that resulted in him being exposed to a large amount of fetor, killing him instantly on the spot. While Old Hu was able to contain the fetor, his mistake caused the nearby village to abandoned and made lasting changes to the landscape, and he died before the age of sixty due to his own exposure.

While Hu Tao was too young to understand her father's death, by the time she grew and understood the truth, she held nothing but contempt for him, as he had let everyone down as Old Hu's teachings went "in one ear and out the other," and his relationship to her as her father was the reason why she didn't hold back on criticizing him.

When Hu Tao performed the ritual herself later on in order to seal a large growth of fetor, the cost required her life and she was overwhelmed by fetor. Arriving at the border between life and death, he and Old Hu arrived to greet her. He was proud of her accomplishments, knowing that she had done much better than him. However, he told her that they had only come to see her because they missed her, causing her to realize that they were not here to pick her up. He told her that they would reunite in good time and that there was no need to rush; the Traveler had arrived to take her back, as they were unaffected by the Ley Lines and took her place in the ritual.
