OverviewList

Map location files are editor-made images showing the location of NPCs, Items, Quest starting points, and more on the Teyvat map.

It is recommended to pair these images with Location Context images (open world screenshots taken with a Kamera or Photo Mode) which can give viewers better context.

This guide was made to standardize these map location files in order to help viewers identify locations quickly and easily.

Category Guide

When uploading map location files — whether they are using this guide's templates, a custom template, or a screenshot from the game map serving as a placeholder — the {{Map Image}} template should be added to the page.

Marker Guide

Location Marker

The color of the location markers must be white with a black outline at 50% opacity so that it is visible over all terrain. To maintain consistency, please use one of the map markers provided below, at whichever size most accurately represents the content.

Examples:

Custom markers, when a specific shape or outline is desired, can also be made by creating shapes with white 5px lines and a black 3px stroke at 50% opacity.

Landmarks

Landmark icons on a single template must all be the same size. Landmarks should include all of the following, as well as any special icons that act as Teleport Waypoints (e.g. the Alcor).

Underground markers

Map Templates

The map templates included in this guide should be used when possible.

These map templates are not taken from in-game screenshots of the world map. To exclude text and unnecessary markers, the templates use sections of the Teyvat map file with the icons of Teleport Waypoints, Domains, Waverider Waypoints, and Statues of The Seven manually added.

If a location, path, border, or other thing to be mapped necessitates the use of a custom map template, please create one in the same manner as the existing map templates.

Program Recommendations

Genshin Impact Wiki:Map Generator is a desktop-only custom JavaScript tool created expressly to generate maps that abide by the wiki's standards. It comes with all of this guide's map templates and markers ready to be used.

When uploading files for the map templates themselves, always add the category Category:Map Templates and the corresponding region template:

Map templates must show recognizable parts of any given area as much as possible so that viewers will not have any difficulty understanding where to find the marked location(s). For example, the Windrise/Falcon Coast map shows the roads leading north and south, which act as "borders," give the viewer an idea of Windrise's size, and serve as reference points that allow viewers to more easily locate any markers that are placed in the more generic grassy areas.

Underground Map Templates

Underground map templates should have the target layer shown over the base Teyvat surface map for context. The Teyvat map should have a black fill layer with 75% opacity over it. Any other map layers from the relevant map group, other than the target layer, should have a black fill layer with 50% opacity over them. Teleport Waypoints and other features that are on the Teyvat map and are not in the underground layer do not need to be included unless they can provide context for the underground map.
