The dialogue remains unchanged even if Tatarigami has been removed by completing Orobashi's Legacy.
The shrine that Chouji's mother made offerings to can be interacted with before ever speaking to Chouji. However, there is no unique dialogue for that situation and it is assumed the player has reached the part of the quest that involves it.
Although Chouji comments that his mother did not leave him any letters or notes upon her departure, an Unsealed Letter from her addressed to him can be found in Jakotsu Mine.
Pirate's Diary describes their meeting with a miner whose wife and son stayed on the island, but it can only be assumed that the man in question may be Chouji's father.

Etymology[]

The name "Gazing Three Thousand Miles Away" is a reference to the Italian children's novel Heart by Edmondo De Amicis. A chapter of the novel, "From the Apennines to the Andes," was adapted to a Japanese anime 3000 Leagues in Search of Mother (Japanese: 母をたずねて三千里) in 1976. The plot of the story features a 13-year-old boy, Marco, traveled three thousand miles to Buenos Aires, Argentina, in search of his lost mother, and finally met his bedridden mother at Mr. Mechines' house in Tucuman.
