The Fellflower is an event boss for the Rise of the Fell Flower Challenge in Act II of the Shadows Amidst Snowstorms Event.

It is a Cryo Whopperflower created by Primordial Albedo, using the alchemical notes he stole from Albedo and Durin's blood; the mutations allow it to mimic humans, of which it attempted to impersonate Albedo.

In the latter part of the story arc, he was referred to by Albedo as "Subject Three" in his story. "Subject One" is Rhinedottir's 'successful' Albedo; and "Subject Two" is the Fellflower's creator, "Primordial" Albedo — the failed iteration of Rhinedottir to create human life.

Arcane Fruits
The Fellflower's "crystals" have mutated into arcane fruits, using them as a primary source of attack. These fruits have moderate durability; Once destroyed, they will be launched at the Fellflower and deal significant damage to its shield. There are three types of Arcane Fruits that will attack the player:
  • Type 1: Slams down at the player three times from above, dealing 100% ATK as AoE Cryo DMG.
  • Type 2: Suspends in midair and launches homing projectiles at the player, each dealing 50% ATK as Cryo DMG on hit.
  • Type 3: Summons up to 2 Large Cryo Slimes.
Arcane Essence
After being hit by an Arcane Fruit, summons Arcane Essence that will restore portions of the Fellflower's shield if not picked up by the player. If the player picks up an Arcane Essence, they will lose 1.5% Max HP every second for 10 seconds. The HP loss effect will stack if multiple Arcane Essences are picked up.
Avalanche
Launches waves of massive snowballs at the player, each dealing 100% ATK as Cryo DMG on hit.
Bombardment
Launches massive snowballs into the air that will fall onto the player's location, each dealing 50% ATK as AoE Cryo DMG.
Spin
Flattens, stretching out its petals and spins, dealing 100% ATK as AoE Cryo DMG.

Phase 2: Unshielded[]

After the Fellflower's shield is depleted, it will shrink down and become stunned for a period of time before resuming its attacks.
Subterranean Burst
The Fellflower submerges underground before bursting out on the player's location, dealing 100% ATK as AoE Cryo DMG upon reappearance.
Frost Cannon
The Fellflower charges up and fires a rapid volley of projectiles, each dealing 20% ATK as Cryo DMG on hit.
Spin
Flattens, stretching out its petals and spins, dealing 100% ATK as AoE Cryo DMG.
Snowball Strike
Launches smaller snowballs at the player, each dealing 60% ATK as Cryo DMG on hit.

Strategy[]

When first fought, the Fellflower is massive and comes with a shield that reduces damage it takes. While Pyro is effective against the shield, it is important to also destroy the Arcane Fruits spawned by the Fellflower to deal significant damage to its shield. When an Arcane Fruit is destroyed, 3 drops of Arcane Essence will spawn. It is necessary to pick up the Arcane Essence as failing to do so will result in the Fellflower absorbing them and regenerating its shield. Picking up the Arcane Essence will cause percentage-based DMG from the active character's health, which can also down them.

During the shielded phase, a healer is highly recommended, as Arcane Essence can deal a significant amount of true damage that ignores shields when picked up. A ranged character is also helpful for destroying the 2nd type of Arcane Fruits, which suspends in midair and is difficult to reach for melee characters.

When the shield depletes, the Fellflower shrinks to a much smaller size and becomes much more manageable, acting like a normal Whopperflower. The Fellflower will be invincible for a short period of time while transitioning to the second phase.

Descriptions[]

Having absorbed the blood of the wicked dragon, this Whopperflower has undergone immense changes. Handle with care!

Trivia[]

Etymology[]

  • "Fell" is a word with various Old English to Proto-Germanic roots all roughly meaning "fierce, savage."
    • Another possible root stems from Latin, where it can refer to "poison" or "venom," which could be in reference to Durin's corruptive blood.
