Overview |
Energy is the resource used to execute Elemental Burst attacks. The amount of energy required for Elemental Bursts varies from character to character, and can be checked in-game via the Skill Attributes section of the character's talents menu.
Energy is recharged by picking up elemental particles (for a small amount of energy) and elemental orbs (for a larger amount of energy). Additionally, basic attacks recharge energy at a small rate, while some artifacts and weapons can also regenerate energy directly when their activation conditions are met. Keep in mind, however, that some of them only regenerate energy for certain party members. Some character talents are also capable of regenerating energy for the character.
When a character is knocked out, they will lose all their energy. Certain enemies also have the ability to drain (remove) energy, as well as certain Ley Line Disorders, such as Engulfing Storm and Lightning Bolts.
Overview
Picking up elemental particles and orbs regenerates energy for the entire party, but the amount of energy gained depends on element, a character's Energy Recharge %, whether they are on the field or off the field, and how many characters are in the player's party.
Both orbs and particles only give energy once they reach a character, creating some delay between generating an orb or particle and receiving its energy. As a result, it is possible to switch the active character while the orbs or particles are still traveling so that a different character can recover more energy.
Elemental particles will restore energy to characters that share their elemental alignment — indicated by the particle's colour — at a greater rate, and to other characters at a lesser rate. For example, Kaeya gains more energy from Cryo elemental particles than he does from Pyro elemental particles.
Elemental particles are dropped by enemies when their HP drops and when they receive damage from most Elemental Skills.
The particles dropped by damaging enemies occur at certain health thresholds. Smaller enemies like Hilichurls drop a particle at 50% HP and upon defeat. Larger enemies like Mitachurls drop a particle at 75%, 50%, and 25% HP, and upon defeat. Depending on the type of enemy, these particles may or may not be elementally charged (slimes, for instance, always give an elemental particle according to their element).
Damaging enemies with an Elemental Skill usually generates some elemental particles. Certain Elemental Skills, such as Noelle's and Barbara's, will not generate any elemental particles. Particles gained from using Elemental Skills will have the respective skill's element. Some Elemental Skills' particles appear at the location of the enemy hit and may take a while to travel to the active character, while other Elemental Skills' particles appear at the location of the active character when the skill was used and are almost immediately received by the active character, who is usually still the one that used the Elemental Skill unless the player experiences lag that delays the appearance of the elemental particles.
For example, Xingqiu's Guhua Sword: Fatal Rainscreen generates 5 Hydro elemental particles at Xingqiu's location. With reference to the energy conversion rates, when the particles are absorbed:
- An active Hydro character (such as Xingqiu himself) recovers 15 energy (5×3),
- An inactive Hydro character (in a 4-character party) recovers 9 energy (5×1.8),
- An active, non-Hydro character recovers 5 energy (5×1), and
- An inactive, non-Hydro character (in a 4-character party) recovers 3 energy (5×0.6).
Note that in this specific case, the particles spawn before Xingqiu's skill animation completely finishes. This makes it highly likely that Xingqiu will be the active character when the particles are received, though it is possible for another character to receive the particles if Xingqiu quickly sprints away and switches character.
There are also some weapons that can generate elemental particles, and the Elemental Resonance High Voltage will generate an Electro elemental particle on a 5-second cooldown if the Superconduct, Overloaded, or Electro-Charged elemental reactions are inflicted on an enemy.
Some Artifacts such as a full The Exile set generate energy directly and do not require striking or damaging a foe. As with other sources of direct energy generation, such as certain character passive talents, this energy generation does not benefit from Energy Recharge effects. Some weapon passives, such as that from Prototype Amber, also can generate energy in the same way.
Energy Conversion Rates
Picking up elemental orbs and particles translates to a certain amount of energy for active and inactive characters in a party. An "Active" character is the character currently being used by the player, while "Inactive" characters are in the current party but not on the field.
- The number of characters in the party affects the Conversion Rate of inactive characters.[1]
- For 2 / 3 / 4 characters in the party, the Conversion Rate of inactive characters is 80% / 70% / 60% of the Conversion Rate of active characters.
- In Co-op mode, the number is determined by characters in the party a player can control.
- For 2 Players, the host is considered to have 2 characters in their party, and the Conversion Rate of inactive characters is 80% of the Conversion Rate of active characters.
This table shows the conversion rates of elemental orbs and particles to energy without taking the Energy Recharge% value into account. For example, if the active character picks up an elemental particle of the same element, they gain 3 Energy.
Character | Particle | Orb | ||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Same Element | Different Element | Non-Elemental | Same Element | Different Element | Non-Elemental | |

Tartaglia can also generate elemental particle with the effect Riptide Flash of his Normal Attack Cutting Torrent. It is currently the only non-elemental skill with a generation of elemental particles.
Particles Generated by Enemy Drops
When an enemy HP decreases below a threshold, it will drop particle(s) or orb(s).
Some enemies may only have one threshold (mostly 0% of max HP), while some enemies may have 4 thresholds (such as 75%, 50%, 25% and 0% of max HP).
Note: Some enemies will drop more than one particle when their HP are below thresholds, but it seems like they only drop one particle in the screen. Maybe the system merges particles into one particle in visual effects.
For some enemies, particle(s) or orb(s) come from skills of enemies.
Energy Generated by Normal Attacks
When a Normal or Charged Attack hits an enemy, it has a probability to generate 1 Energy for the character. Every time a Normal or Charged Attack fails to generate Energy, the probability will be increased. When Energy is successfully generated, the probability will be reset.[2] Energy restored this way is not affected by Energy Recharge.

The DMG dealt by Musou no Hitotachi and Musou Isshin's attacks will be increased based on the number of Chakra Desiderata's Resolve stacks consumed when this skill is used. Musou Isshin While in this state, the Raiden Shogun will wield her tachi in battle, while her Normal, Charged, and Plunging Attacks will be infused with Electro DMG, which cannot be overridden. When such attacks hit opponents, she will regenerate Energy for all nearby party members. Energy can be restored this way once every 1s, and this effect can be triggered 5 times throughout this skill's duration. While in this state, the Raiden Shogun's resistance to interruption is increased, and she is immune to Electro-Charged reaction DMG. While Musou Isshin is active, the Raiden Shogun's Normal, Charged, and Plunging Attack DMG will be considered Elemental Burst DMG. The effects of Musou Isshin will be cleared when the Raiden Shogun leaves the field. Chakra Desiderata When nearby party members (excluding the Raiden Shogun herself) use their Elemental Bursts, the Raiden Shogun will build up Resolve stacks based on the Energy Cost of these Elemental Bursts. The maximum number of Resolve stacks is 60. The Resolve gained by Chakra Desiderata will be cleared 300s after the Raiden Shogun leaves the field. |
