The Effect Order of Elemental Reactions affects the output of amplifying reactions as well as the effectiveness of transformative reactions against enemies with innate elements or elemental shields.

Amplifying Reactions

The order of the applied elements determines the multiplier of amplifying reactions. This mechanic only applies to the Melt and Vaporize Elemental Reactions between Pyro, Cryo, and Hydro.

Forward Reactions

These reactions use the 2× multiplier and are particularly effective on elemental shields and elemental constructs, using less total Gauge Units to destroy than other reactions. They also consume the aura (first) element faster because of their higher Reaction Modifier.

Reverse Reactions

These reactions use the 1.5× multiplier and are less effective on elemental shields and elemental constructs, using more Gauge Units to destroy than other reactions. They consume the aura (first) element slower because of their lower Reaction Modifier allowing for more frequent reactions to occur off of the same initial aura application.

  • Cryo on Pyro: This triggers Melt, an amplifying reaction that deals 1.5× DMG when Cryo is applied first.
  • Pyro on Hydro: This triggers Vaporize, an amplifying reaction that deals 1.5× DMG when Hydro is applied first.

Transformative Reactions

Transformative Reactions which involve Overloaded, Shattered, Electro-Charged, Superconduct, and Swirl do the same Elemental Damage type regardless of order. This makes certain Transformative Reactions more effective against enemies with innate elements or elemental shields.

Effective Reactions

Less Effective Reactions

  • Electro on Pyro: This triggers Overloaded, a transformative reaction that deals Pyro DMG and triggers an explosion. Pyro Elemental Lifeforms are immune to Pyro, and Pyro shields take very little damage from Overloaded reactions.
  • Hydro on Electro: This triggers Electro-Charged, a transformative reaction that deals Electro DMG over time based on elemental mastery. Electro enemies are usually immune to or take very little DMG from Electro sources, including Electro-Charged.
  • Electro on Cryo: This triggers Superconduct, a transformative reaction that decreases Physical resistance by 40% and deals Cryo DMG based on elemental mastery.
  • Hydro on Cryo: This triggers Frozen, a reaction that renders enemies immobile but deals no damage itself. Cryo enemies are commonly immune to Frozen and cannot be Shattered.
