Damage Sequence is a mechanic that reduces the damage dealt by attacks that hit repeatedly. It is a component of Internal Cooldown alongside the Gauge Sequence and the Poise Sequence.
This mechanic is commonly used by fast-hitting enemy attacks to improve the player's survivability, as well as certain Elemental Reactions to prevent quadratic scaling of AoE damage.
Overview[]
Similar to Internal Cooldown's Gauge Sequence, Damage Sequence is handled by two properties: Reset Interval and Hit Sequence.
- The Hit Sequence adds an additional multiplier to damage instances based on the number of times the corresponding type of damage has been dealt. For example, if a Hit Sequence is [1, 0.5, 0.25, 0.1], the second instance of damage will be multiplied by 0.5, the third instance of damage will be multiplied by 0.25, and all remaining instances of damage will be multiplied by 0.1 until the sequence is reset.
- The Reset Interval is a timer that starts when the first instance of damage is dealt and will reset the Hit Sequence when it reaches 0.
Note that Damage Sequence is counted separately for each source and each target.
For example, the Thunder Manifestation's "Slicing Storm" attack has a Hit Sequence of [1, 0.5, 0.25, 0.1] and a Reset Interval of 1 second. When hit repeatedly by this attack, the following can be observed:
- The first instance of damage has a corresponding multiplier of 1, so it deals the full amount of damage of 1975.
- The second and third instances of damage have multipliers of 0.5 and 0.25 respectively, dealing 987 and 493 damage respectively.
- The remaining instances of damage in the sequence have a multiplier of 0.1, dealing 197 damage.
- After 1 second, the Hit Sequence is reset, and the attack deals 1975 and 987 damage again before ending.
