Not to be confused with HP Loss.

When characters or enemies attack their targets, they deal damage (abbreviated as DMG) based on their own and their target's attributes.

There are eight damage types, seven of them are Elemental, one is Physical.

A single instance of damage cannot exceed 9,999,999.

General Damage Formula[]

For DMG dealt by Talents, Constellations, Weapon passives, and enemy attacks, the DMG calculation factors in the following components:

DMG is calculated as:

If the damage scores a Critical Hit, then the CRIT DMG multiplier will be applied.

Base DMG[]

Base DMG is the amount of DMG resulted from multiplying the ability's scaling with the corresponding stat, before accounting for any damage modifiers.

Unless otherwise specified in the skill attributes, abilities will scale with ATK. Some abilities may scale with more than one stat.

Base DMG Multiplier[]

Base DMG Multiplier is directly multiplicative with Base DMG. It can be obtained through:

  • There are 6 Talents:
    TalentDescriptionType
    Ceremonial Crystalshot Ceremonial Crystalshot
    Navia Navia
When a character in the party obtains an Elemental Shard created from the Crystallize reaction, Navia will gain 1 Crystal Shrapnel stack. Navia can have up to 6 stacks of Crystal Shrapnel at once. Each time Crystal Shrapnel gain is triggered, the duration of the Crystal Shrapnel stacks you already have will be reset.
When she fires, Navia will consume all Crystal Shrapnel stacks and open her elegant yet lethal Gunbrella, firing multiple Rosula Shardshots that can penetrate opponents, dealing Geo DMG to opponents hit.
When 0/1/2/3 or more stacks of Crystal Shrapnel are consumed, 5/7/9/11 Rosula Shardshots will be fired respectively. The more Rosula Shardshots that strike a single opponent, the greater the DMG dealt to them. When all 11 Rosula Shardshots strike, 200% of the original amount of DMG is dealt.
In addition, when more than 3 stacks of Crystal Shrapnel are consumed, every stack consumed beyond those 3 will increase the DMG dealt by this Gunbrella attack by an additional 15%.

    Hold
Enter Aiming Mode, continually collecting nearby Elemental Shards created by Crystallize reactions. When released, fire Rosula Shardshots with the same effect as when the skill is Tapped.

    Two initial charges.

    Arkhe: Ousia
Periodically, when Navia fires her Gunbrella, a Surging Blade will be summoned, dealing Ousia-aligned Geo DMG.

    Wanderer Wanderer
Concentrates the power of the winds to break free from the shackles of the earth, dealing AoE Anemo DMG before leaping into the air and entering the Windfavored state.

    Windfavored
The Wanderer cannot perform Plunging Attacks in this state. When he uses Normal and Charged Attacks, they will be converted into Kuugo: Fushoudan and Kuugo: Toufukai respectively; the DMG they deal and their AoE will be increased, and their DMG will be considered Normal and Charged Attack DMG respectively. Kuugo: Toufukai will not consume Stamina.
The Wanderer will hover persistently during this time. While this state is active, the Wanderer's movements gain the following properties:
    • Persistently consumes Kuugoryoku Points to maintain this hovering state.
    • When sprinting, additional Kuugoryoku Points will be consumed for the Wanderer to accelerate mid-air. Holding sprint will cause persistent Kuugoryoku Point consumption to maintain speed. This effect will replace his default sprint.
    • Jumping expends extra Kuugoryoku Points to increase hovering height. Holding jump will cause persistent Kuugoryoku Point consumption to keep increasing hovering height.

Running out of Kuugoryoku Points will end the Windfavored state.
A second cast during the duration of Windfavored will also end it.

They will attack nearby opponents at intervals, prioritizing the target of the active character, dealing Hydro DMG based on Max HP.
When they attack, if character(s) with more than 50% HP are nearby, the Members will increase their current attack's power based on the number of such characters, and consume said characters' HP. If the characters who meet these requirements are 1/2/3/4 (or more), the Members' attacks will deal 110%/120%/130%/140% of their original DMG.

    Pneuma
Summons the Singer of Many Waters, who will heal nearby active character(s) based on Max HP at intervals.

The Salon Members and Singer of Many Waters share a duration, and when Furina uses her Charged Attack to change the guest type, the new guests will inherit the initial duration.

      DMG Bonus[]

DMG Bonus refers to all percentage-based DMG bonuses, which include Elemental and Physical DMG Bonuses listed in the stats screen, as well as all other special percentage-based DMG bonuses which may affect Normal/Charged/Plunging Attack, Elemental Skill, Elemental Burst, all DMG, etc. DMG Reduction of the target effectively reduces DMG Bonus.

      DEF[]

Defense (abbreviated DEF) reduces incoming damage based on the following formula:

The incoming damage will then be multiplied by:

      Alternatively, for enemies only:

      • Enemy Defense is given as:
      • Enemy Defense multiplier can be calculated as:
      where

      RES[]

      RES Multiplier vs

      RES Multiplier vs. RES%

Targets have different Resistances (abbreviated as RES) to Elemental and Physical DMG. There are ways to increase or decrease these resistances. Total RES is calculated as:

The RES multiplier varies non-linearly with the RES percentage. Depending on the value of in the interval below, the corresponding is as follows:

      Formula Interval
      RES < 0
      0 ≤ RES < 0.75
      RES ≥ 0.75

For example, an enemy with 10% RES (i.e., 0.1) will have a RES multiplier.

For a table of enemy RES, see Resistance#Enemy RES.

      Elemental Reaction Damage[]

Elemental Reactions may be categorized into three groups:

      • Transformative Reactions that deal additional elemental damage, calculated separately, when triggered
      • Amplifying Reactions that increase damage by adding a damage multiplier ("Amplifying Multiplier") to the hit that triggered the reaction
      • Catalyze Reactions that increase damage by adding an Additive Base DMG Bonus to the hit that triggered the reaction

Note that triggering multiple reactions in quick succession can cause the reaction's pop-up text to be hidden by the game, even though the reaction occurred and dealt damage successfully.

      Transformative Reaction Damage[]

The transformative reactions are Overloaded, Shattered, Electro-Charged, Superconduct, Swirl, Burning, Bloom, Hyperbloom, and Burgeon.

The damage dealt by such reactions scales with the triggering party's level and Elemental Mastery (EM), and is reduced by the target's Resistances. Unlike normal damage, this damage is not based on the triggering party's ATK, cannot score CRIT Hits by default, and ignores target's DEF.[Note 1]

Certain effects such as the 4-piece set bonuses of the Crimson Witch of Flames and Thundering Fury Artifact sets can also increase the reaction damage (% Reaction Bonus).

Additionally, the stats of the party that applies the initial element do not affect the reaction damage; the only party taken into account is the one that applies the second element (or third element with hyperbloom, burgeon) which triggers the reaction.

Transformative Reaction DMG is calculated as:

If the damage scores a Critical Hit, the CRIT DMG multiplier is also applied.[Note 2]

The amount of EM can also increase the damage of transformative reactions by a certain percentage (% EM Bonus). (See Elemental Mastery for more details.) EM Bonus is calculated as:

It is possible for transformative reactions that further apply an element (Swirl and Burning) to further trigger amplifying reactions. For example, when Anemo is applied to a target affected by Pyro, a Pyro Swirl is triggered and this can hit nearby targets that are affected by Hydro. In this case, the amplifying reaction adds an additional multiplier ("Amplifying Multiplier") to the outgoing damage dealt to the target affected by Hydro, as calculated in the next section.

For the base damages of transformative reactions per Level, see Elemental Reaction/Level Scaling.

      Amplifying Reaction Damage[]

The amplifying reactions are Vaporize and Melt. Amplifying reactions add extra multipliers to the damage of the attack that triggered the reaction based on the triggering element and the elemental mastery of the triggering character.

Certain effects such as the 4-piece set bonus of the Crimson Witch of Flames Artifact set can further increase the damage ("Reaction Bonus").

The additional amplifying multiplier is as follows:

      This amplifying multiplier increases damage:

where "DMG" may be the damage dealt by Talents, Constellations, enemy attacks, or a Swirl reaction as calculated in the earlier section.

The level of EM can also increase the damage of amplifying reactions by a certain percentage ("% EM Bonus"). (See Elemental Mastery for more details.) This can be approximated as follows:

Talents that only apply the elemental status will deal no damage upon triggering an amplifying reaction.

      Catalyze Damage Bonus[]

The Spread and Aggravate reactions add Additive Base DMG Bonus to attacks. Similar to transformative reactions, the damage bonus scales with the triggering party's level and Elemental Mastery.

The Additive Base DMG Bonus is calculated as:

      Swirl/Burning-Induced Reaction Damage[]

Unlike most transformative reactions, Swirl and Burning can apply their corresponding elements, and are therefore able to trigger further reactions. DMG will be affected as follows:

      For Amplifying Reactions:

      For Aggravate:

For Transformative Reactions, the same damage calculations in the previous sections is applied.

      True DMG[]

True DMG[Note 3] is DMG that ignores the target's DEF, RES, and Damage Reduction, but does not ignore shields. However, True DMG can be increased by Melt and Vaporize, but not Spread and Aggravate.

Note that True DMG is not to be confused with HP Loss, as HP Loss is not considered damage at all.

Notable sources of True DMG include:

      Other Damage-Modifying Effects[]

Other than those specified above, there are certain less common mechanics that will affect damage:

      • Bow users have damage dropoff on their aimed shots based on the amount of time that an arrow travels in the air. The damage dropoff multiplier is applied multiplicatively with the entire damage formula.
      • Dehya's Elemental Skill multiplicatively reduces DMG that characters receive. This also applies to Transformative Reaction DMG and True DMG.
      • La Signora has a mechanic that prevents her from taking a single instance of DMG that exceeds a percentage of her Max HP. DMG exceeding that threshold will be nullified.

      Snapshotting[]

Snapshotting refers to the ability of certain abilities to retain their buffs from the time they are cast. For example, Xiangling's Pyronado will be buffed for its whole duration when cast inside Bennett's Fantastic Voyage field, even if one walks outside the field or the field expires.

      Sample Calculation[]

Consider the following sequence of events:

      1. Mona Mona is Level 70 with the following Attributes: Attack is 1500, Elemental Mastery is 150, Crit DMG is 80% and Hydro DMG Bonus is 40%.
      2. Mona Mona applies Wet on a Level 75 Fatui Agent.
      3. Sucrose Sucrose with 4 piece Viridescent Venerer Swirls the enemy. This decreases the Fatui Agent's Hydro RES by 40% (i.e., 0.4).
      4. The Fatui Agent's Wet status wears off.
      5. Klee Klee with Constellation Explosive Frags Constellation 2, Explosive Frags, deals Pyro DMG, thus applying Pyro on the Fatui Agent and decreasing their DEF by 23%.
      6. Mona Mona casts Talent Stellaris Phantasm Level 6 Stellaris Phantasm, triggering Vaporize for no damage and clearing the Pyro status.
      7. Klee Klee deals Pyro DMG to the Fatui Agent, triggering Illusory Bubble, which gives a 52% DMG Bonus and deals Critical Hydro DMG and Vaporize.

We can calculate the damage dealt by Mona in the final step as follows:

Therefore, Talent Stellaris Phantasm Stellaris Phantasm will deal 52247 Hydro DMG.

      Notes[]

      1. Transformative Reactions do have a DMG multiplier based on DEF:

However, the difference it causes is so extremely minuscule that it is usually ignored.
      2. This is currently only achievable with Nahida's 2nd Constellation.
      3. Term introduced in Version 2.3.

      Change History[]

      Version 2.3
      • Added an upper limit of 9,999,999 to single instances of damage.

      Version 1.6

      Elemental mastery bonus damage graph

Elemental Mastery bonus damage (%) vs Elemental Mastery (EM)
Version 1.6 buffed values shown in red; Version 1.5 in blue

      • Shields generated by Crystallize, elemental reaction damage (Electro-Charged, Superconduct, Overloaded, Swirl, and Shatter), and the damage bonus for the same elemental reactions were buffed.
      • The Elemental Mastery bonus was increased (relatively) by +75% at low levels increasing to +90% at high levels.[1]
      • The exact changes are not yet certain:
        • According to one analysis base Elemental Reaction damage was reduced (by ~30%) below level 60, but above level 60 slightly increased, gaining up to ~ +15% by level 80, and +20% by level 90. Before and after buff base damage was roughly equal at level 60.[1]
        • An alternative analysis gave no change below level 60 for base damage, but an increasing boost after - peaking at +20% at level 90.[2]
        • The new formula for Elemental Mastery bonus has been estimated as 16EM/(EM+2000). This gives an increase in bonus of 170% to 200% increasing with EM value.[2]
      • The net effect of these changes is minimal changes in damage at lower levels, but substantial increases in damage above level 60 - generally roughly up to doubled damage. (At level 90 between 1.4x and 2.2x damage, depending on EM.[2])
      • The damage absorption of crystallize generated shields has also been significantly increased.
        • According to one analysis the increase in base shield absorption strength was steadily increased from around level 30, reaching around +30% over the shield strength in v1.5.[2]
      • Elemental mastery bonus formula for transformative reactions was changed from the following:

      Version 1.4

      Version 1.3

      • All Geo shield damage absorption (Noelle, Zhongli, Crystallize) was altered from 250% Geo damage absorption to 150% mixed physical and elemental. Benefits from Geo Elemental Resonance and shields were also increase (+15% shield strength, +15% damage when shielded, reduced Geo resistance of attacked foes by 20% for 15seconds).[4]

      Version 1.2

      • Elemental reactions caused by environmental objects was scaled to be that of 2 levels below the current World Level.

      Version 1.1

      • The damage from the elemental reactions caused by environmental objects (grass, water etc.) was altered. The reaction damage from Overloaded from burning grass, or Electro-Shock from water bodies etc. was scaled to the current World Level, with a minimum of WL0 and maximum of WL4.

      Version 1.0

      • Damage was released.
