Longevity... | |

Do you have any customs that you follow on your birthday? In the past, my master knew that I didn't need material possessions, so she would only send me a blessing on this day. Thus, I've only recently learned of the custom of eating longevity noodles on one's birthday. However, longevity in of itself is not something I want to pursue. Rather, I would like to spend that longevity with the people I have formed a bond with. I asked my master who excels in cooking for advice on how to prepare it well, but she wanted me to figure it out by myself. I don't know how much I've figured out. I guess that will be for you to judge. I'll be waiting.

This morning, my master cooked medicinal soup and many other exquisite dishes for me. She also invited Moon Carver and Mountain Shaper for a gathering. In my master's abode, the soothing aroma of the dishes and the familiar atmosphere of a friendly reunion made for a comforting respite. I, on my part, collected dew from Violetgrass and fetched well-preserved aromatic herbs to make some simple refreshments. Though my cooking skill is not as good as my master's, the refreshments are a token of my good wishes... and a sign of how I've changed since returning to human society. I would feel content if you could try them and tell me what you think. One last thing. My master prepared a generous portion of medicinal soup for me. I only had a small bowl. After that, I cooked some noodles for you with the rest of the soup. I hope you like it.

My Handiwork... | |

Recently, whenever I've had a spare moment, I've been observing and studying Chef Mao's way of cooking. I've learned a lot just by watching and taking notes. But once I try it myself, I always seem to encounter all kinds of problems. When I tried carving a duck, for instance, I accidentally used too much force, and the meat ended up flying all over the place. And when I tried making tea pastries, I rolled the pastry too thin, so the filling all spilled out... I didn't want to give up, so despite the setbacks, I just kept practicing. Xiangling and Guoba have given me a lot of encouragement too. Which is why I think it's about time you tried out some of my handiwork for yourself.

Not long ago, two guest dined at Wanmin Restaurant. As they were leaving, the lady tearfully said to the gentleman, "A relationship that only shares joy but not hardship is like the shifting sands of Sumeru..." At first, I didn't fully understand what she meant. But after observing the companions around me, I realized that close family members don't just talk about happy things. Xiangling often complains to Chef Mao about the challenges of cooking, and Master always reminds me to share my troubles with her when I'm away from home. I hope we can reach that level of closeness too. So, please tell me your worries. I'll listen carefully and if needed, I'll do everything I can to help. As for my own troubles... well, I'll share them with you when we meet.

The first step in practicing the adepti arts is to be calm. Let your power flow through your fingertips, like this. Then... Hmm? "Happy Birthday"? ...Thanks. So this is what my master meant when she said there may be a visitor today. I feel that my mortal destiny has ended, and that my date of birth isn't of great importance... But I am very happy to have your blessing.
Ever since I've joined the adepti, all mortal customs were forgotten like dust in the wind... But since I met you, I've actually been looking forward to this day. I can't really describe how I feel, other than that my heart feels warm. This feeling reminds me of a blue sky, a spring breeze, and the bouquet you sent me. Thank you for your gift. So, these Qingxin... can I eat them?
This is where I usually come to meditate. The streaming moonlight and gentle mountain breeze help me calm my mind and focus on my training. By the way, would you like a cup of Qingxin tea? I used the recipe you gave me last time we met. It's not bad — a hint of bitterness to begin with, then a sweet aftertaste. Mm... After all, too much raw Qingxin in one go makes a person uncomfortable. When I told Master that, she seemed very pleased and said I had finally learned to look after my health. Anyway, thank you. I'll take good care of myself, so you... needn't worry too much.
Good evening. Master mentioned you've been free of late, so I took the liberty of inviting you here. I hope you don't mind. No need to be nervous, it's nothing urgent — I just wanted to invite you to enjoy the moonlight together. I had grown accustomed to practicing alone at night, but now that you're here, the nights don't feel as long as they used to. When the surface of the lake freezes over, it'll reflect the night sky — a dream of raining stars and the silver moon... would you like that? |
