Dialogue[]

Your training is over and Skirk has located the culprit behind the scenes. Proceed with caution.
- (Upon receiving the quest)
- Paimon: *yawn*... Time to go? Finally!
- Paimon: Where are we headed?
- Skirk: Just follow me. I'll open an Abyssal rift close to the culprit's location. It will take us to where he's hiding.
- (Approach the marked location)
-
- (The time changes to evening, then gradually to night)
- The Chasm, right? Paimon: Wait... This is near
- Skirk: Yes. If we enter from here, we'll be able to reach that place from your dream.
- Skirk: You have some experience with Abyssal domains by now, but still, this is someone else's territory. Best to proceed with caution.
- Paimon: Don't worry! Paimon's an expert at hiding behind other people for safety!
- TravelerTraveler)! Paimon: Oh, but, uh... That means you need to stay safe, (
I will.
Let's teach this thief a lesson.
- Skirk: Alright. Remember your training. Time to put it to use.
- (Enter the Abyssal rift)
- (Approach the spikes after defeating the first two waves of enemies)
- Paimon: Whoa, look at all these spikes! Careful, don't get hit!
- Paimon: You know what? Paimon's just gonna float behind you... C'mon, you got this!
- (After defeating the third wave of enemies)
- Skirk: Hey. What are you two doing here?
- Abyss Mage: Who's that? Don't interrupt our research!
- Abyss Mage: Ah, were you drawn here by this mysterious power, too?
- (A new path appears)
Skirk: Dusty, like an abandoned house... Let's press on.
- (Approach the marked location)
- Paimon: Oh... Looks like this is a dead end. Did we make it to his hiding place?
- Paimon: Ugh, this fog is making it impossible to see anything!
- TravelerTraveler). Skirk: This should be the place where you were attacked, (
- Skirk: The missing part of your soul should be nearby. Can you sense where it is?
- (TravelerTraveler): (If I close my eyes and focus on the light that came from my wound back then... Yes, I can sense something, and it is nearby. But I can't tell the exact location.)
Nothing exact...
But, I know it's nearby.
- (Multiple rifts open up)
Skirk: Hmm. Our opponent must have covered his tracks just in case. Otherwise, you should have sensed it much more strongly.
- Paimon: Hold on, look! The spikes are back!
- Skirk: Stay calm. Let's hold back a little, give our enemy some wiggle room so we can see what we're dealing with. If we're too reckless, we might be playing right into his hands.
- Skirk: Our enemy took part of your soul for a reason — it's likely he integrated it into his attacks somehow. If we're smart about this, we can track it down.
- (After evading the spikes)
- (A cinematic plays)
- Cutscene's Travel Log summary:
- (Countless rifts open, with a swarm of spikes emerging from them)
- (The spikes proceed to attack the Traveler and Skirk, then switches to focus their attack on the latter)
- (Skirk hovers around at speed to dodge the spikes, while the Traveler blocks the stray spikes with their sword)
- Skirk: From the start, the attacks have been focused on me.
- Skirk: Trying to break through my defenses? I see...
- (Skirk stands her ground, then creates clusters of small crystalline shields around her)
- (A single spike manages to escape the Traveler and break through one of Skirk's shields and stab her)
- (The stabbed spike then creates a translucent, fabric-like connection from Skirk to a rift)
- (This causes Skirk to glow purple and causes her outfit to change into a different form)
- (The Traveler severs the connection with a slash, then immediately switches from Hydro to Anemo and uses Palm Vortex to destroy all the other spikes approaching them)
- (TravelerTraveler): You alright? That thing was...
- (Skirk takes the spike out and crushes it)
- (An orb-shaped golden glimmering fragment of the Traveler's soul is released from it)
- (Skirk directs the soul fragment into the Traveler's body, which envelopes the Traveler in a golden aura)
- Skirk: There. I got it back.
- (Cinematic ends)
- (After the cinematic)
- TravelerTraveler), Skirk! Paimon: Ah, (
- Paimon: What happened? It looked like Skirk just got—
- Skirk: ...
- Guili Plains, you asked me why this enemy chose you as his target. Skirk: In the
- Skirk: Now, the answer is clear. It's not just the fact that your strength is impressive. It's also because of your ability to, as you put it, "purify" Abyssal power.
- Skirk: Whatever that actually means... The fact is that ability allowed him to do something that should have been completely impossible:
- Skirk: Namely, break through my defenses and steal my power.
So, you were his real target?
He was after you from the very beginning?
- Skirk: No, he couldn't have known I'd come to his domain. He only stole your soul fragment because he knew the value of its power. I doubt he expected it to come in handy so soon.
- Skirk: Call it "fate" if you want. I believe that's the term they use in this world for arbitrary coincidences like this.
- Skirk: In any case, it works to our advantage. Once I realized what he was using that power for, it gave me the chance to get back what you lost.
But, you...
- Skirk: I'll cope.
- Skirk: Well, done gorging? Good. Time to answer some questions.
- All-Devouring Narwhal? Skirk: How did you get the power of the
- Paimon: The All-Devouring Narwhal!?
- Paimon: Ohh... of course! Paimon knew that spike thing looked familiar! It looks just like that narwhal's horn!
- Skirk: I highly doubt you acquired that power through your own strength. Tell me I'm wrong.
- god remains and whatever vestiges of power you can find. That alone proves you wouldn't be able to defeat a creature like that. Skirk: You're desperate enough to scour the land for
- Surtalogi. Skirk: Which leaves one possibility — you know my master, "The Foul"
- ???: "The Foul"...
- ???: Who dares call him "foul"? Surtalogi...
- ???: Surta... logi...!
- Skirk: What's wrong, bit off more power than you can chew? You're struggling to hold a basic conversation...
- ???: Just a little longer. I'm still...
- (Many rifts open, with spikers emerging from them again)
- Paimon: Look! It's back!
- Skirk: Those obsessed with power will let it devour them before abandoning their pursuit.
What should we do now?
- Skirk: Keep calm and use reason to decide the best course of action.
- (TravelerTraveler): (Skirk was stabbed by one of the spikes while retrieving the fragment of my soul, and in the process, some of her power was stolen.)
- (TravelerTraveler): (The culprit is hiding somewhere beyond the fog. I have a good understanding of his attack pattern from the fight just now. If we pursue him, our chances of winning are high.)
- (TravelerTraveler): (But, Skirk's breathing is weaker than usual. If we attack now, I can't guarantee her or Paimon's safety. It's a hard decision to make, but...)
I think we should get out of here.
- Skirk: Wise decision. Final victory doesn't always come after a single battle.
- Skirk: You've got your soul fragment back, so we both got what we came for. Let the enemy draw breath while he can. It won't be for long.
- TravelerTraveler). You'll need to lead the way this time. Skirk: Get us out of here, (
- (Make way toward the exit)
- Paimon: Skirk, is your shoulder gonna be okay?
- Skirk: The wound is minor — it'll heal in no time. You should focus on getting out of here alive instead.
- (Continue moving toward the exit)
-
- (A large spike falls and lodges itself into a platform)
- (The platforms break and fall after the Traveler walks past them)
Paimon: Uh oh, falling spikes! Run!
- (Continue moving toward the exit)
-
- (Large spikes fall and lodge themselves into more and more platforms)
- (The platforms break and fall after the Traveler walks past them)
Paimon: Watch out! Looks like this place is about to collapse!
- (Continue moving toward the exit)
- Paimon: So, this guy's power has something to do with the All-Devouring Narwhal... Did you know that all along, Skirk?
- Skirk: I had my suspicions. That's why I decided to investigate in the first place.
- Skirk: But, suspicions only get you so far. I needed to verify it for myself.
- (After escaping through the Abyssal rift)
- Paimon: Phew... Uh... We should be safe here, right?
- Skirk: I no longer sense his presence. Can't have followed us out of that Abyssal domain.
- Skirk: Weaklings like him will find that my power is not so easily controlled. He won't be leaving that place until he's managed to digest it.
The All-Devouring Narwhal...
With its power, he even managed to steal from you of all people...
- Skirk: You seem surprised.
- Skirk: I suppose that's fair... You've seen but a fraction of what that whale is capable of. That gaping maw could swallow a planet whole.
- Skirk: It's called the All-Devouring Narwhal for a reason — "devouring" is what it does best. It can extract power from anything, dead or alive, as long as it manages to make physical contact.
- run-in with that thing, Neuvillette mentioned that it has an "instinct to devour"... Paimon: Yeah, when we had our
- dragon friend recognized the nature of its abilities and used the power of Hydro to protect you. That worked because it was in a satiated state, so it was somewhat less aggressive than usual. Skirk: Your
- Skirk: It's a different story when it has no more power to feed off of. That's when its true, voracious nature kicks in. It could devour everything on the planet in that state — which is why I cast it into that void space...
- Skirk: But, I hadn't counted on there being anyone left on this planet capable of wielding its power. To me, that says he must have encountered the whale a long time ago — meaning, he must have known my master.
Yeah, hearing you say "The Foul" definitely got a reaction out of him.
- Skirk: Exactly, it told me everything I needed to know. Hence why I said, we both got what we came for.
- Skirk: And I believe that brings our transaction to an end. Now that you're whole again, you can get back to your own journey. I'll handle the rest of this situation myself.
- Paimon: No way, we can't leave now! Something was stolen from you because of us! We have to help you get it back!
- Skirk: This isn't my first taste of failure or losing power. When you fall, you get back up again and become stronger, that's how it is.
- Paimon: But... What if that monster finds you before you're all better?
- Paimon: Plus, how are you gonna get home? It's not like you can just go "swoosh" and open a door to the Abyss again. Not without your full strength!
- Paimon: So, sticking with us for the time being doesn't sound so bad, does it?
It's not out of pity.
You said I don't want to be in your debt. Well, I still am.
- Skirk: ...
- Skirk: Fair enough. Then, take this.
- Paimon: Uh, what is it?
- Mora. Nothing in this world is free — I know that much. Skirk: A bag of
- Skirk: I'll leave the planning to you. Hurry up and decide where to go. We shouldn't linger.
- (After the dialogue)
- Paimon: We should take Skirk somewhere she can rest! Hmm, but where...
- Baizhu said we could rest in the back room of the pharmacy, didn't he? Let's head there! Paimon: Paimon gets the feeling Skirk wouldn't like being around a lot of people... Oh, wait!
- (Talk to Skirk again, optional)
- Skirk: He'll know something about Master, I'm sure of it... Next time, I need to be ready.
How's the shoulder?
- Skirk: Fine. It was just a scratch.
- Skirk: It'll take time to recover my strength, of course, but adapting to situations like this is nothing new for me.
- (Return to option selection)
Your outfit looks different...
- Teyvat. Wearing this helps me access it more freely. Skirk: Oh, this? It's a "Starcrystal Suit." Abyssal energy is scarce in
- Skirk: It stores concentrated Abyssal energy that I can draw from on the go. When the energy runs out, it reverts back to its original form.
- (Return to option selection)
Let's go.
- Skirk: Ah, found somewhere to rest? Well, lead the way then.

Despite successfully retrieving the soul fragment, Skirk was injured in the process and has temporarily lost her powers. For the moment, it would seem best to take her to Bubu Pharmacy to rest...
- (Talk to Baizhu, optional)
- TravelerTraveler). Should I take it that your health issues are resolved? Baizhu: You look much better, (
- Changsheng: Hm, your case was a tricky one. Seems slightly too early to celebrate.
- Changsheng. Further observation is in order, I think. Baizhu: Very true,
- Baizhu: We haven't had many patients recently, so we have several vacant rooms. Feel free to stay a few more days if you need.
- Paimon: Awesome! Thanks!
- (Enter the back room of Bubu Pharmacy)
- Paimon: Huh, this bag from Skirk has a ton of Mora in it...
- Wanmin Restaurant, that seems impossible. Can you imagine? It would go something like... Paimon: Does she have a job or something? Wait, no. After what we saw at
- Paimon: "I'll be collecting my paycheck now, Boss."
- Paimon: "Oh, sure thing! Wait, who are you? Have we met?"
- Paimon: Hm, can't hold a job if you make everyone forget about you. So, what did she do to get all this Mora...?
- monsters that were causing trouble... Nothing untoward. It's safe to use. Skirk: Ugh... Claimed some buried treasure, took care of a few
- Paimon: Aaaah! You heard all that?
- Skirk: A... sonorous voice like yours is hard to miss. I wouldn't be surprised if the sound of it traveled to the nearest mountain top.
- Paimon: Then, did you, by chance, happen to hear Paimon's little, um... joke earlier?
- Lavender Melon"? Skirk: You mean when you called me "Frosty the
Guess you did, heh...
Paimon's whispering needs some work.
- Paimon: No, no. Sorry, Paimon totally misspoke just now. She didn't say that at all! It was... a Paimon look-alike! Yeah, she's a piece of work, that one. Always impersonating Paimon and giving people weird nicknames! Hehe...
- TravelerTraveler) in a big way, so... Whaddaya say? Friends? Paimon: ...Okay, fine. The truth is Paimon didn't like you all that much at the start — but things are different now! You helped (
- Skirk: ...
- Skirk: I noticed there was only one bed. Go ahead and get some rest.
- Paimon: Wait, what about you?
- sword work. That should help me regain some strength. Skirk: I don't get tired, and I don't need rest. I'm going to practice my
- (Skirk leaves the room)
Paimon: But, your shoulder! Hey! Don't just leave!
- Paimon: Argh, whatever. Let her tire herself out. She'll come back eventually.
- TravelerTraveler)! That comfy bed is calling Paimon! Paimon: Let's get some sleep, (
- (TravelerTraveler): (Skirk is stubborn. Even if I tried to convince her to take it easy, I doubt she'd listen.)
- (TravelerTraveler): (Paimon is right. Skirk will stop and take a break once she gets tired... I hope. I should just get some sleep.)
- (The Traveler and Paimon go to sleep on the bed)
- (At some point, Skirk came back and started resting in a chair, with her outfit having changed back to its earlier form)
- (The Traveler opens their eyes while laying down and notices Skirk)
???: *panting*
- (TravelerTraveler): (Skirk...?)
- (TravelerTraveler): (Of course she's acting like she didn't just get stabbed in the shoulder. Huh, something seems off with her though...)
- Skirk: *panting*...
- (The Traveler gets up from the bed and observes Skirk)
Skirk: ...Quiet.
- (TravelerTraveler): (Who's she talking to? There's no one around. Unless...)
- (Images appear in Skirk's mind)
- Bewitching Voice: Do you even remember how many of us perished in that fire? How many bodies were left to rot on the scorched earth? Yet, you alone live on.
- Bewitching Voice: Keep your gaze fixed on your blade. You don't deserve to rest.
- Bewitching VoiceBewitching Voice: Run, Skirk... Run! Only death awaits us here. Keep running, and don't ever look back...
- (TravelerTraveler): (Right! In that dream I witnessed, Skirk was training alone, but there were disembodied voices talking to her.)
- (The Traveler walks toward Skirk and pours a cup of tea for her)
- (TravelerTraveler): (One of them mentioned a fire... I wonder what happened exactly. If only she could just talk to us...)
- (Time passes, morning arrives)
- Paimon: Ahhh, getting an early night's sleep is the best! That bed was sooo comfy!
- Paimon: Wait, Skirk? Have you been sitting out here the whole night? The bed's all yours if you want it!
- Skirk: ...
Recovered your strength yet?
- Skirk: About 60 percent, maybe 70.
- Paimon: Whoa, Paimon thought it would take at least a couple of days! That was fast!
- Skirk: No... Not fast enough.
- Skirk: That's 20 percent less than last time. Same training regimen, same intensity. Nothing felt different, but somehow, the outcome fell short.
Maybe it's because of the spike that stabbed you?
- Skirk: No, I think the problem's with me.
- Skirk: I need to meditate for the next two days. Deep introspection should help me find the issue.
- Paimon: Whoa, sounds intense! We'll watch over you in the meantime, then!
- (Time passes as Skirk meditates in one corner of the room)
- (The Traveler and Paimon are shown passing the time in various ways)
- (The quest ends and directly continues into the next quest)
Skirk: Thanks. See you in two days.
