This whole thing reeks of the kind of Genshin complaining that you'd see happening for one or two days on Twitter and then never again. Nobody actually cares about how appropriate the magic/tech in Natlan is for the setting; they're all just being uncharacteristically vitriolic about their innocuous opinions because they saw someone else also being uncharacteristically vitriolic about it, and it can all be traced back to a single person who took a big issue with something that ultimately doesn't even matter but their complaint got a lot of attention, and thus lots of similarly emotionally charged responses. I like that they went crazy with Natlan, and it's without a doubt the most creatively designed region to date. Even if the magic systems conflicted with the lore or world building, I mean, who cares? It's a game, and it's fun, and it looks cool, and it works in great service of the game design. That's not gonna dock points off the final score.

Some people get hung up on immersion and whatnot.

Personally, that's one of the reasons I disliked Xinyan until the game's world was expanded upon and she felt less jarring. For a similar reason, its a reason I dislike gun wielders in medieval fantasies and virtually never play those characters. (Luckily Fontaine canonized its guns with appropriate lore so its not a Genshin problem, IMO.)

In fact, Ei is one of my least favorite characters just because the demon she's associated with. In fact, there are entire games made by publishes I like wherein I won't buy said games because of the demons within the game.

People often get hung up on itty bitty things. Think a character is ugly? Well, they might not even be played by some people even if they are top tier META. Something being jarring is the same. Even a person's headcanon not backed by any facts may lead to someone disliking a character. Likewise, people being upset with the fanbase of a character may not play them.

While you are right that often complaints are just people dog piling on a subject, tossing their two cents into a conversation and not deeply caring, there are also plenty of people who behave in a ridiculous manner.

As for the final score, I'd say you're presenting your statement as though you don't really grasp how something like that works.

E.g., I rather dislike Chasca's flying gun. However, feeling like a battleship soaring through the air dropping cannon fire on my foes below is fun & her gameplay is a change of pace.

Her design DOES take points off the final score. However, the fun gameplay increases her final score.

@Zaelus Well, no duh. It's obvious that they do, because I see it happen all the time. But let's also not fool ourselves by pretending like such innocuous things actually matter to us outside of internet bickering.

@Ardebxt But it does matter as far to whether or not people actually like or play the character.

There are plenty of things I dislike about the game, the characters, the story, and the setting. You'd never see me bring them up in actual conversation, however, because they occupy so little of my headspace that I don't even think about them whenever I'm not actively discussing them. I mean, be honest, does the inclusion of motorcycles in a fantasy game bug you that much? I think it's a strange choice, but that's about as far as my opinion of it goes.
