Long ago, in the land of freedom ruled by no god in the city of Mondstat, there was a boy and a girl. They were none the wiser of what fate had planned. The girl was pleasant and fair; her name was Rosalyne. Living not so far away was a noble and kind boy, a knight to be named Rostam.
Running through the city streets Rostam had just finished his training and was heading home, however, a voice fell upon his ears distracting him, it broke him from the nervousness he felt about his entrance exam, he stood pausing and saw a lovely girl singing with birds, bards, and wind sitting on the fountain in the city square, her wavy almost white golden hair waved in the gentle winds that carried her voice, her blue spinal eyes, contrasted the scarlet she dressed in. He wanted to approach her but he did not have enough time.
Rosalyne had spent most of the day in solitude and while everyone else spent the day sweating and working she spent her day studying and resting, coming from a place of money, although nothing like that high society Lawrence family, but still wealthy nonetheless, and so her family had her study so she could go far and do great things. She also had a secret gift- though she cared little for it, this was a powerful ability to control fire, despite lacking divinity nor divine gift she possessed this power. Her family pestered that she tame and master it, but she didn’t care about it, she preferred to spend her time in the piece of studying and learning, singing, and looking after the local children while their parents worked.
Rosalyne remembered she saw a boy one day while out singing, she didn’t know him and they never spoke to each other and yet, she could recall his face so vividly, hair like ink, his calming expression, and those Amethyst eyes. She didn’t understand at the time, and nor did he why they always recalled each other, nor why they felt a thumping in their chest when they did think of one another.
Several times they saw each other, and once Rosalyne followed that boy she learned his name was Rostam and he was a knight in training, he seemed to be about her age too both being 15, and though she wanted to go to him, and truly meet him she was nervous, and as he was about to walk past she, panicked and slipped behind a tree, albeit too late.
“Excuse me, are you….”
Rostam paused upon seeing who was before him, that girl who he could not get off his mind, and now he finally had a chance to talk to her. He was nervous but now was as good a time as any. “Are you unwell?, you seem frightened” He tried to come off as friendly and helpful. “Y-yes, I am Blooming I just-tripped on my shoes…” Rosalyne had quickly made an excuse and a lie, noticing her shoelace had come undone. She had to think quickly again, a reason to talk to him, But he spoke first. “So what's your name?” She was somewhat relieved he spoke first. She did not want to mess things up with him, she doesn’t know why but she couldn’t bear the thought of them disliking each other. “Lohefalter, I am Lohefalter” She said
He seemed to smile a bit, it was a friendly and kind smile “I meant YOUR name, not your family” Rosalyne was somewhat surprised, he did not care for the formalities.“Then, I am called Rosalyne.” She was about to Continue speaking but another person Showed up calling Rostam’s name. “Rostam, our practice must not be delayed much longer!” Rostam looked away from Rosalyne for a moment, responding. “You can go about without me Arundolyn! I’ll join you in due time!” And so his friend left, but not without warning Rostam that neglecting to train would only be a disservice to himself.
“I have seen you around the city before, the way you foiled those thieves just days ago…it was incredible.” Being praised was rather foreign to him, he did his work often from the shadows, so the fact someone had noticed his silent defeat of the criminals shocked him. “I.. you have pret-er Perceptive eyes…” He had almost slipped, and he didn’t realize why he was feeling all he did until that moment and he thought “So that's it… perhaps my life shall play like a fairytale then”
Rosalyne didn’t consider the compliment until she realized what it was when she lived her life being talented and pretty…. She had grown indifferent to constant praise, yet one thing she never felt praised for was that mind she had, so many people praised her Flesh and bone, her Visage, her voice, her heritage, and even that infernal power …yet those things, were hardly worth praise as they are not earned, they came to her easily or even without effort. That was why she liked to learn and study; it was hard and boring, and it gave her a challenge. So, to be praised for her hard-earned perception was very gratifying. “Thank you” She smiled and felt so warm.
Time went on and on, as they just started to talk, and talk, they got to know each other more, Rosalyne learned tomorrow was the day of Rostam and his friend’s entrance exam to the knights where tomorrow “You would make a fine knight, you will have my prayer and for the parts, I can watch I’ll be there to cheer you on” Rostam heard this and it ignited hope in him maybe their feelings were mutual but he dared not rush to conclusions. He didn’t want to risk it, maybe she was just being nice…
So the night passed and they went home, both ever so hopeful for tomorrow, Rostam had studied and rested well and was without fatigue by sunrise, and Rosalyne spent the night preparing for the next day. Full of hope, and as the golden sunlight rose over the City walls and rooftops they woke up and prepared for the day,
They arrived at the Knights of Favonius headquarters at almost the exact same time, and They decided to talk very quickly, Rosalyne had something to say, she knew it was a thought that helped her achieve her goals, she asked one thing: “What is your Goal?” Rostam knew immediately.
“It is a very delusion dream, but one I chase none Less, I want to clean the world and rid it of its crookedness and filthiness, A beautiful pure white world.” he had answered so surely and it was incredible, Rosalyne often heard dreams of Wealth, love, power, and so many likewise things but this dream so Pure and kind, was so admirable.
“That's a dream I would like to see come true” Rosalyne had felt moved by such a goal.
She waved Him and His friend luck as they headed inside for their test. She had faith in them, and after a few hours passed, they came outside for a combat trial. Many people gathered to watch. They watched as Rostam controlled his blade with purpose and Speed, such finesse and skill. She and all the other’s in awe as Rostam so effortlessly used the sword seemingly unfettered by gravity. Afterward, the testers had to go over the results, But Rosalyne was sure he passed the test handily.
While in processing Rostam had Approached Rosalyne, and Arundolyn was with him.
“I am glad you came.” Rostam always seemed so sincere. Arundolyn poked in though “You two took so long yesterday, I almost thought Rostam was never going to come” He laughed a bit.
“My bad, I should have been more considerate” Rosalyne apologized softly, she did feel bad about it.
Arundolyn looks a bit nervous “Sorry.. I didn’t mean to make you feel bad, We still were both fine.” he wasn’t the best at humor so it came off badly. As the trio continued to talk. They waited until a bell rang to signal the announcement of who passed and would be able to join the knight, when the Bell chimed they began in alphabetical order, Several names… Arundolyn….more names and more names and Rostam was at last named, The trio cheered, quite a bit.
“You did it!” Rosalyne was ecstatic for her new friends, who had been so happy. But this is just the beginning, the first step towards their goals, Arundolyn that role model knight, Rostam that dreamer, and Rosalyne the one with dreams so unremarkable, she was full of hope for her bright future.
